March 25th, 2014. I went to Shangri-La to try their Classic High Tea at Lobby Lounge. I always love their Lobby Lounge. Spacious, classy but not intimidating. And it’s a comfortable place to have high tea with friends or family.
The Classic High Tea is available from 3 to 6 in the afternoon. It was 3 levels tower and I think the price was affordable. Since they were all delicious and yummy.
Btw, do you know the difference between Afternoon tea and High Tea? Sometimes people say it as afternoon tea, sometimes as high tea. Let me tell you the difference.
Afternoon tea is served around 4.00pm. When afternoon tea became fashionable in the early 19th century, thanks to the Anna, the Duchess of Bedford it was never intended to replace dinner but rather to fill in the long gap between lunch and dinner at a time when dinner was served at 8pm. Lifestyles have changed since those times and afternoon tea is now a treat, rather than a stop-gap.
High Tea means different things to different people. The origins of Afternoon Tea show clearly this was the preserve of the rich in the 19th century. For workers in the newly industrialised Britain of the time ‘tea’ had to wait until after work and be substantially more than just tea and cakes. Workers needed sustenance after a day of hard labour, so the after work meal was more often hot and filling and accompanied by a pot of good, strong tea to revive flagging spirits.

Green Tea with Jasmine Flowers 71k
A mild and delicate tea with pronounced Jasmine aroma. A delicious palate cleansers after strong tasting or rich food.
Level one: HOT – consist of:
Lemongrass Marinated Chicken Lollies with Mango and Sago Dipping – this one was very unique, love the lemongrass taste on the chicken.
Prawn Tempura and Healthy Vegetable Chips – this one was okay, the tempura was crunchy.
Mini Beef Fillet Mignon Rosini Burger with Duck Foie Gras – the burger bun was okay, but the duck foie gras was delicious.
Level two: COLD – consist of:
Dill and Yuzu Marinated Prawns with Avocado in Brioche a Tete – this one was super delish, no more saying.
Grilled Baby Vegetables with Pesto Aioli on Rocket Bread – pesto never failed me.
Beef and Enoki Teriyaki Rolls on Dark Rye Bread with Cornichons. – the beef was tender and the cornichons had strong flavour, but I like it.
Level three: SWEET – consist of:
Chocolate Trilogy Layer – love it!! the best! the chocolate melts in your mouth.
Vanilla and Fresh Raspberry Creme Brulee – love this one too. strong flavour with tender texture.
Pecan and Maple Tarlet – this one was delicious, but I prefer the other two 🙂
