Kila Kila by Akasya at SCBD Sudirman Jakarta

February 18th, 2017. I heard a lot of good reviews about Akasya Catering. Their slogan is: “When you need a good Catering with a good taste and nice presentation.” So when I heard that they opened a restaurant, I was wondering. Should I try it or not yaaaa? Because I don’t remember about Akasya Catering taste of food. And I cannot order 1 box only for me, right? LOL. Well, when a friend – she was their outsource PR *yesss!* asked me to visit the restaurant, I checked my schedule right away. On that cloudy Saturday noon, I was there, waiting for her to come. Kila Kila by Akasya.

Rich in flavour, a perfect harmony in the heart of Jakarta, Kila Kila is a perfect place to enjoy your time, even on a short break. Indonesian food has been known as one of the best culinary in the world for its taste and balance in rich flavour. To bring Indonesian feast even further, Kila-kila serve you a “treat to Indonesian delicacy.” We know how delicate Indonesian food can be and how treasured your time is.

Located on 7th floor at Lot 4 building, Kila Kila separated into two areas. When you come out from the elevator, if you want to go to smoking area you just turn right. But if you want to sit at non-smoking area, just go left. Actually, I prefer the smoking area, which is more spacious. But because I don’t smoke, I chose non-smoking area. Quite different ambiance, but more comfortable. I love the interior there. It has natural lighting with yellow and wood furnitures. Traditional decorations are like rattan lamp cover hanging all over the ceiling and any types of teapots lining up on the cupboard. By the way, Kila Kila means the sounds of joy.

I forgot to try this one, but I guess it’s very delicious since my friend loved it very much hahaha..

POULTRY

Tum Ayam 40k

Steamed minced chicken with indonesian herbs and spices wrapped in banana leaf

It’s what we called “pepes ayam.” Tum Ayam is one of the popular Balinese dish that is cooked in the same method as pepes or otak-otak. It’s my first time eating Tum Ayam. I thought it will be spicy, but it’s not. Thank goodness!  They mixed the minced chicken together with flavorful spices and coconut milk, wrapped snugly in banana leaf. It gave you a flavorful dish with soft textures, after being steamed. Superb!

IMG_3703 IMG_3704

SEAFOOD

Udang Telor Asin 110k

Fried prawn cooked with salted egg yolk

As you know, salted egg yolk is a happening ingredient nowadays. Every dishes used salted egg yolk. But, I think most of chinese food used salted egg yolk since I can’t remember when. I used to eat a lot like that. Well, you can say I’m an old school people LOL. But it’s true. Well, before I ate this dish, I knew right away that it was delicious. The salted egg yolk sauce was incredibly buttery. Such a delightful dish to complete my lunch.

IMG_3699 IMG_3700

Kerang Woku 80k

Green mussel cooked with Woku sauce

My favourite dish. I coudn’t stop eating this kerang woku. Well-seasoned. The soup was addicting. The green mussel was appetizing. They have a sweet flavor and a delicate, tender, and juicy texture. Perfect for the fresh Woku soup.

Woku is a type of bumbu (spice mixture) found in Manado cuisine of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It has rich aroma and spicy taste. Woku consist of ground spices paste; red ginger, turmeric, candlenut and red chili pepper, mixed with chopped shallot, scallion, tomato, lemon or citrus leaf and turmeric leaf, lemon basil leaf and bruised lemongrass. Rub main ingredients (chicken or fish) with salt and lime juices, and marinate for 30 minutes. All spices are cooked in coconut oil until the aroma came up and mixed together with the main ingredients, water, and a pinch of salt, well until all cooked well.

IMG_3705 IMG_3706

VEGETABLE

Terong Sambal Udang 50k

Fried eggplant with prawn sambal

I ate this one all by myself since my friend / the outsource PR didn’t like eggplant. YAAAAAAY! Great benefit for me hahaha. I love eggplant. And this eggplant with prawn sambal is very scrumptious. Eggplant has a firm, creamy texture and rich, meaty flavour. The prawn sambal wasn’t as spicy as I thought. Favourite!

IMG_3701 IMG_3702

DESSERT

Better than Kiss 65k

Sweet brioche served with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream

First and foremost, I thought it’s chocolate dessert. But when it arrived on my table, turned out it was like a toast. I LOVE IT! It’s literally better than kiss! The sweet brioche was tender and moist and fluffy, like clouds. And the caramel sauce makes a favorite addition. Numero uno!

IMG_3710 IMG_3711

Es Pisang Ijo 45k

Banana raja, pandan flavor, serve with coconut milk rice and topping with coco-pandan syrup and milk

Es pisang ijo is always a fresh dessert. The banana raja was tender and sweet. Coconut milk rice was tantalizing. Such a mouth-watering dessert. I ate this dessert while chit-chatting with my friend, and I emptied my glass within minutes hahahaha..

GIA Restaurant and Bar at Sampoerna Strategic Building Sudirman Jakarta

February 6th, 2017. I heard about this place a long time ago. I think everybody had already came. Actually it’s one of Ismaya’s group. And I’ve never been there. Until now. LOL. Finally yesssss. GIA.

IMG_3158

GIA: A taste of the Italian soul with a modern twist. Ismaya is proud to introduce GIA, an Italian restaurant & lounge that blend modernity with a twist of retro. Located at Sampoerna Strategic Square Tower 2—one of Jakarta’s unique landmarks that is distinguishable by its classy, luxurious interiors—GIA is embedded with a combination of bright white, black Italian marble and dark wooden ceiling that gives you a fascinating dining experience.

From the facade, it was quite entertaining with many photos of Gia Carangi, the first supermodel during the late 1970s and early 1980s. When I walked inside, I found the place is a casual fine dining restaurant. I thought it will be a luxurious bar with intimidating people inside hahahaha.. The dining room divided into two area. There’s lounge also. Actually GIA isn’t very fancy. It’s more like family restaurant, actually.

IMG_3160 IMG_3161 IMG_3162 IMG_3163 IMG_3164 IMG_3165 IMG_3166 IMG_3167 IMG_3168 IMG_3169 IMG_3170 IMG_3173 IMG_3174 IMG_3176 IMG_3177 IMG_3178 IMG_3179 IMG_3180 IMG_3181 IMG_3182

The food creations at GIA are presented by the Executive Chef, Tuscany’s own Tommaso Gonfiantini. The foods are the perfect combination of Italian traditional cuisine with a modern vibe, which not only pleases the taste buds, but also the eyes of the beholder. The menu quintessentially focuses on fresh, seasonable ingredients—with some ingredients imported directly from Italy—and feature appetizer, entrée and dessert menu additions from the local scene.

For this Valentine, GIA had set menu created special by Chef Tommaso

VALENTINE’S SET MENU

4-course set menu 750k++ per pax
Free flow wine 350k++ per pax (a choice of red or white)

APPETIZER

Yellowfin Tuna with tomatoes, black caviar and strawberry vinaigrette

When I arrived, there’s a media gathering. I sat there because I knew some of them. Then I saw this menu, I asked them the ingredients. They said it was tuna with strawberry. I was like.. *shocked* So when it came to my table, I was very very careful when I tried this. And.. it was delicious!!! OMG! Love it. Hahaha.. It was a little bit weird at first, but on second thought, it’s not weird. It’s one-of-a-kind.

IMG_3184 IMG_3185

*OR*

Pan-seared Foie Gras with fragrant red onion broth

I didn’t really like the red onion broth hahaha.. So, I prefer go with it without the broth. The texture of the foie gras was overwhelming. Well, actually, just enjoyed it at the same time. Slurp the broth with the foie gras. Some people will loved it, for sure. 🙂

IMG_3186 IMG_3187 IMG_3189

PASTA

Roasted Red Beetroot Spaghetti with ricotta goat cheese and hazelnuts

It’s Valentine. So, GIA tried to make it more romantic. Actually I prefer they used pink, since Valentine is pink in my opinion. But, red reminded me of red roses. Maybe that’s why they used red color. I didn’t like the ricotta goat cheese, but the spaghetti was well-seasoned. Delightful with marvelous texture. No weird taste from the beetroot. YES! Recommended!

IMG_3193

MAIN

Poached Pollock Fish with vanilla, potatoes and capers

Love the vanilla and potatoes, but the poached pollock fish wasn’t suitable for my taste bud. I prefer a softer fish. But my friend, Cindy, loved it so very much.

IMG_3188

*OR*

8+ Wagyu Fillet Mignon with Gorgonzola cheese, radicchio and walnuts

Laffff! Tender and juicy. The gorgonzola cheese mixed perfectly with the wagyu. It had a fine buttery texture and a wonderfully mild flavor. Match made in heaven. The walnuts enhanced the texture of the wagyu. Crispy and crunchy. Recommended!

IMG_3192

DESSERT

Greek Yogurt Semifreddo with figs, honey and wild fennel

Sweet and sour at the same time. OMG! I love this one. The crumble under the yogurt semifreddo. Magnificent. I wanted to ask for another bowl of it. LOL. Next time, maybe.

Al-Nafoura Restaurant Le Meridien Hotel Jakarta

October 20th, 2016. On one vivid Thursday night, I came to Le Meridien and enjoyed their lounge alone. I had a dinner date with Adit and Fiona. But before the agenda, I worked on my blog first at Le Rendezvous. By the way, thank you Adit for inviting me to Le Meridien’s Middle Eastern Restaurant. Al Nafoura.

IMG_8729

Al Nafoura brings the strong heritage of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern heritage to savoury. Built in two spacious levels to accomplish relaxed, textured sand stone walls and arches, wrought ironworks and terracotta floor are vividly contrasted with richly color hand spun floor rugs, cushions and handcrafted artifacts. Two private dining rooms also available for special occasions or business meeting.

IMG_8730 IMG_8731 IMG_8734 IMG_8735 IMG_8737 IMG_8739 IMG_8736 IMG_8732 IMG_8727 IMG_8728

Chef Ahmad Jamil describes the excellent flavour of each dish created by using right balance of natural spices and ingredients. Most of ingredients for Middle Eastern cuisine is close to Southeast Asian food with greatly spices and herbs, but some of spices which cannot be found in Indonesia, such as Saffron and Zaatar still need to be imported from Middle East Country. Luckily, in the land of Indonesia is overwhelmed with many fresh vegetable ingredient such as eggplant, chickpeas and parsley.

The tantalizing menus feature lamb or chicken Shawarmas, seasoned with exotic spices, yoghurt, olive oil and lemon juice. An open kitchen with vertical rotating spit roasting will slowly cooked shawarmas to perfection. The kitchen also has large wood-fired ovens in which an assortment of breads is baked. Chef Ahmad also recommends the favourite foods Lamb Ouzi (braised lamb shank Ouzy style served with oriental rice, assorted nuts and yoghurt sauce) or Couscous rna dalah haruf (lamb chop grilled with Lebanese pistachio sauce served with couscous and steamed vegetables). You can also try Salamun Ma Zatoun (charcoal grilled salmon marinated with olive oil, cumin, zaatar and Middle Eastern spices served with roquette salad, mashed potatoes and Zatoun).

The favourite cold mezzeh or appetizers are Hommos (puree chick peas with sesame paste), Tabouleh (flat parsley salad with tomato and cracked wheat), Babaganough (grilled eggplant salad with tomato and capsicum) and Fatoushe Salata (vegetable salad with toasted pita bread, pomegranate syrup and olive oil dressing). Each mezzeh dish will be nice to accompany every menu. You don’t want to miss the Lebanese dessert Baklawa, the small pieces of pastries baked to the point where its buttery crust melts in the mouth, it mixed with cashew, pistachio served with honey, strawberry sauce and fresh mint or Om Ali (baked pudding of bread, nuts, pistachio, raisins with fresh cream to sweet your day).

APPETIZER

Al Nafoura Cold Mezzeh Tasting Platter

Hommous, warak enab, moutable, tabbouleh, kabis wa zatoun, Turkish labneh, loubia bil zeit and fataushe sala

Not my favourite. If you are my loyal reader, you must know exactly that I never liked middle-eastern appetizers. Thank goodness I asked Fiona to give me a company. She loved everything. LOL. Yaaaaay, thanks to Fiona.

IMG_8726 IMG_8738 IMG_8724IMG_8725

MAIN COURSE

Shish Tawouk

Charcoal grilled marinated chichken skewer served with garlic sauce and your choice of oriental rice or homemade fried potato sticks

The chicken meat was tender and juicy. The longer they marinate the chicken, the juicier and more flavorful they are. It’s such a fantastic dish to serve for dinner.

IMG_8744 IMG_8745

Ma Akoulate Bahrieh Ma Hara

Medley of baby lobster, jumbo prawn, green mussels, white clams and batik clams, in spicy creamy harissa sauce and fresh coriander served with vermicelli rice

Fresh seafood. I ate them all. The lobster, prawn, mussels, clams, everything! Well, I shared with Fiona of course. We had to spare our belly for lamb shank. Woohoo!

IMG_8742 IMG_8743

Haruf Ouzi

Braised lamb shank ouzi style with oriental rice, assorted nuts and yoghurt cucumber mint sauce

And this one was dabomb! The lamb shank was very tender and juicy, with no ugly smell at all. It’s very big! OMG! It’s really a good thing to bring Fiona. She ate a lot, OMG! Hahahaha. Just kidding. I hope she didn’t read this one. She’ll kill me. Hahahahahhaha. Back to the lamb shank. It’s delicious with wonderful flavour and perfect texture. Most recommended!

IMG_8741

DESSERT

SATOO at Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta

October 4th, 2016. One fine day. I woke up and prepared myself for a visit to one of the best buffet place in town. I always love this place. They have everything, I guess. I don’t remember how many times I went there for their buffet. But I remember the first time I went to this place for my nephew’s birthday party years ago. I was stunned by their delicious food. Now, let’s enjoy those mouthwatering dishes. SATOO at Shangri-la Hotel Jakarta.

SATOO is all about the culinary exploration of Asian and international cuisines. Chic and modern are the first impressions one gets upon entering the casual cafe area and seeing the dessert station featuring a chocolate fountain and an irresistible display of cakes, pastries, souffles, ice creams and jajanan pasar (traditional Indonesian snacks).

IMG_7942

There are 12 interactive open kitchen stations featuring various types of cuisines and dishes, including Indian, Western, Chinese, Indonesian, salad, sushi, sashimi, barbecue, noodles, pasta, desserts, fruits and jamu (traditional Indonesian herbal concoctions).

When I looked at those stations, I realized that something has changed. Turned out, they changed the decorations of the stations. It’s more cheerful. Names of the food on blackboard. Pictures on the wall. Playing with colours. It’s just so beautiful. 🙂

#onthetable

Their salmon sashimi was one of the best. And the desserts. OMG! I couldn’t pick their best dessert, because they were all delicious. It’s been so good to eat desserts while chit-chat with friends. We talked about everything. About my trip to Bandung next week. About my foodtasting experiences. About their jobs. About the food. About the weather. When we ate, suddenly it’s raining hard. Very hard. When it’s time to leave, I had to wait for almost 2 hours for my gocar. Traffic jam everywhere. *sigh*

The Dutch 18 Parc Place SCBD Jakarta

September 2nd, 2016. It’s been 6 months since its opening last March 2016. I’ve been aiming to visit this place since I heard about it. But, too busy with my life, it never happened, until now. I finally came there. Finally!!! LOL. I present to you. The Dutch.

IMG_7204

A modern gastropub – by UNION group – serving elevated comfort food with a creative edge by Chef Chris Moes and a wide selection of beers on tap.

Located on the ground floor of office building around SCBD, it’s really a convenient venue for lunch meeting for workers around the area. I knew the place because it used to be my hubby’s office building *not anymore now* 🙂 Ok, let’s talk about the place. When I stepped inside, I found the place was quite calm. A dim-litted gastropub with moody ambiance. It’s not spacious in size, but it’s not crowded also. It’s just a perfect space for having comfortable lunch. Smoking area is at bar and front area. So, if you’re not smoking, pick the table on the back area. And, like any other UNION group’s restaurant, they have baskets to put your bags. Neat.

THE DUTCH SET LUNCH 125k

Monday to Friday from 11am to 4pm
Appetizer + Main Course – OR – Main Course + Dessert
Complimentary Tea or Coffee

APPETIZERS

Caesar Salad with Chicken/Pork

Grilled Smoked Chicken, Crispy 7 Minute Egg, Focaccia Croutons, Anchovies, Shaved Parmesan

Caesar Salad is one of the “safe” salad that you can order anywhere. You can be pretty sure, it’s delicious. It’s a kind of salad that everybody likes. Hahaha. It won’t make you full, and you surely can eat another dish with less guilt. Yes, because you’ve already ate salad. Healthy salad. LOL.

IMG_7224

Greek Salad with Feta Cheese

I don’t like red onion in salad. So, sorry, I didn’t try this one. Just tasted the feta cheese. Yeah, I like cheese. What I love about this dish, it’s so pretty. Colourful, cheerful and wonderful presentation. And it is very healthy hahaha.. Soooo not my freaking kind of food. LOL.

IMG_7228

‘Erwtensoep’

Split Pea Soup, ‘Rookworst’, Brioche, Smoked Butter

When I sip a spoonful of this soup, I said, “This is so good!” Love the texture of it. Thick and rich. Savoury and tasty. And lucky me, I could finish it all hahahaha.. The rookworst enhanced the flavour with its taste. But. Yup but. But, the smoked butter was the superstar I guess. It’s just so very very good, I wanted to ask a refill to the bowl. LOL.

Rookworst is a type of Dutch sausage in which ground meat is mixed with spices and salt and stuffed into a casing. Rookworst is a traditional ingredient in stamppot.

IMG_7225

MAINS

Spaghetti with Spiced Pork Belly

Spicy. That’s the first thing that I find about this dish. The texture of the spaghetti was al dente, of course, which is not my palate. I prefer a little bit overcooked hahaha.. Silly me, right? The spiced pork belly didn’t dominate the flavour of the pasta. I could still taste the spiciness *sigh*

IMG_7227

Red Pesto Rigatoni with Grilled Vegetables

They didn’t serve this dish so I couldn’t take picture of it. So, if you want to know the presentation or the taste, you order it lah by yourself. Do not wait for the photo in my review. Don’t! Please don’t. Well, actually I am not familiar with rigatoni. I just googled it. It said in Wikipedia: Rigatoni are a form of tube-shaped pasta of varying lengths and diameters. They are larger than penne and ziti, and sometimes slightly curved, though nowhere near as curved as elbow macaroni. So, yeah, order it, take the picture of it, and tag me, okay. LOL.

Kebab Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce

It’s huge. Hahaha. Yeah, the biggest satay I’ve ever tried, I guess. The presentation? Mouthwatering. I was drooling when I saw it in front of me. 🙂 But. I hope they make the rice cake softer. It’s a little bit too hard for me. Yeah, an old lady like me, need softer food hahahaha..  The Peanut Sauce was perfect. Perfect texture, perfect taste, perfect for me. I love peanut sauce like I love peanut butter like I love you guys *aaaaaaaaw..*

IMG_7226

Grilled Ox Tongue with Garlic Long Beans and Jasmine Rice

Hmm.. I think grilled ox tongue is similar with gyutan. Am I right? Well, I’m not a food expert. I just loved food. In my foodictionary *hahaha new word!!* there’s only 2 kind of food. Delicious and Very delicious! Hihihi. And I dare to call myself foodie!!! Ok, let’s stop talking about the fun fact hahaha.. This one was very delish. It’s tender and juicy and soft and flavourful and rich and succulent and I can tell you many words that describe the taste of it. But, I will stop. I think you guys already knew what I meant. Now we talk about the jasmine rice. I won’t talk about the garlic long beans. It’s long beans. Period. The jasmine rice was aromatic and well cooked. So yeah, it’s recommended.

IMG_7229

DESSERTS

Bread & Butter Pudding with Raspberry Sorbet

The raspberry sorbet is sexy. The bread and butter pudding is not that special for me. It’s good.. It’s good.. *niddle-noddle* it’s just not that special. 🙂 Taste good, but prefer mushier.

IMG_7236

Brownie with Caramel Sauce and Coconut Ice Cream

Flavor wise, this was one of the best brownie I’ve ever tried. It’s dense but soft and very rich in texture and flavour. They can make it less sweet, though. It’s a little bit too sweet for me, but I guess, a little sweet now and then doesn’t hurt.

IMG_7237

NEW SPECIALS

Tuna Tataki 125k

Wasabi Mayo, Charred Cauliflower

It’s tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth. It’s the winner!! Superb. Actually, the name is very ear-catching. Tataki. It’s actually a method of preparing fish or meat in Japanese cuisine. Tataki means pounded. The meat or fish is seared very briefly over a hot flame or in a pan, and can be briefly marinated in vinegar, sliced thinly and seasoned with ginger (which is ground or pounded into a paste, hence the name). That’s how the fish got the tenderness. Most recommended!!

IMG_7230

Peach & Oreo Cheesecake 65k

Chocolate Ice Cream

Mix peach and oreo and cheesecake. It explodes in your mouth. The cheesecake was soft, like the texture of dense mousse. The sweetness of the peach balanced out the flavour of the cheesecake. Don’t forget the chocolate ice cream. It was one fresh cake to candy-coat your day.

IMG_7231 IMG_7232

Poffertjes Nutella and Banana 45k

My favourite!!! The banana is very sweet with caramel on top, served with nutella all over the poffertjes. It was addicting, ladies and gentlemen! How many poffertjes I ate that time? I lost count! Hahahahaha.. *devil laugh* Yeah, they had to make it one more portion hahahahahahaha *happy face* So, when someone asks me, “What’s fluffy and sweet and addicting?” I will answer in a jiffy, “ME!” Pffffttt.. wrong answer!! It’s Poffertjes Nutella and Banana from The Dutch!! Yaaay!!

Poffertjes are a traditional Dutch batter treat. Resembling small, fluffy pancakes, they are made with yeast and buckwheat flour. Unlike American pancakes, they have a light, spongy texture.

IMG_7234

I had so much fun!! Thanks The Dutch for making my lunch so fun and pleasant time. For me and my tummy. Definitely a keeper! See you again soon ya. 🙂

The Menu

IMG_5507

Premium Tea 38k

I chose Jasmine tea. 🙂

IMG_5502

Small Bites

Deep fried rice balls stuffed with mushroom and cheese 67k

It’s really good but I think it’s a little bit dry. I prefer more chewy and mushy. But no other complaint. Definitely one good starter.

IMG_5505

Homemade Pasta

Black ink angel hair with clams and bottarga 135k

Love the angel hair. It’s quite unique to use black ink, but it wasn’t smelly or fishy at all. The angel hair is cooked just long enough that it is neither crunchy nor too soft. Al dente.

Bottarga is the Italian name for a delicacy of salted, cured fish roe, typically of the grey mullet frequently found near coastlines throughout the world, that often is featured in Mediterranean cuisine and consumed in many other regions of the world. The food bears many different names and is prepared in several different ways.

IMG_5504

Main Course

Chicken scaloppine with Mushroom/Marsala wine sauce served with gratin vegetables 142k

OMG! I was in love. The mushroom sauce was delicious with great texture. Creamy and melt in your mouth. The boneless chicken  was juicy and tender. So flavourful, it’s literally making me drooling while eating it. LOL.

Scaloppine is an Italian dish consisting of thinly sliced meat that is dredged in wheat flour, sautéed, then heated and served with a tomato-, or wine-sauce; or piccata, which denotes a caper and lemon sauce.

IMG_5506

For first-timer to Luna Negra, I was very satisfied. It made me feel sad because I haven’t got a chance to try their pork leg. Leo said it was one of the best there. So, I just hope that they will relaunch the pork leg, someday. 🙂 Btw, thanks Leo for letting me join your lunch that day. Always happy to find a new place for me to enjoy good food.
