September 16th, 2017. Hooraaay!! People in North Jakarta no need to travel far to go to Union. Union finally opened at PIK Avenue Mall. I could hear those people outcried on the first day of the opening. Hahaha..

As usual, Union was always a favourite. I came with hubby since we were in the middle of our staycation at airport area. It’s not far from PIK Avenue, definitely. The place was no different from the previous outlets. Spacious. Lovely. Cosy.

Definitely a keeper. The old school mug gave me some good creep. Well, it tasted sooooo good. I think it’s one of the best. The milky texture mixed perfectly with the light coffee. Great job Union!

Corn Latte

It was surprisingly good. The flavour of the corn was quite strong. But, the uncommonly marriage between corn and latte, it was definitely love. *sparkling eyes*

The Truffle Kway Teow was soooooo truffle!
The Pork Belly was crispy and also tender.
Nasi Babi Garing was also good, but not really my favourite.
It was too crunchy, I guess.
The Pork Chop delicious, but I didn't like the apple.
Chilli Crab Spaghetti was unique and I loved the texture of the spaghetti.
It's not too spicy, well-seasoned.
5 dishes, and my favourite were truffle kway teow and crispy pork belly.
Those two were delicious and memorable. Super recommended!

Super Loco at Pacific Place Mall Jakarta

May 30th, 2017. Finally I could try the latest establishment from Union Group. Super Loco. Collaboration with Loco group from Singapore, they served Mexican cuisines. Well, it’s not really my favourite kind of food. But, I heard they’re delicious. So, why didn’t I give it a try, right?

Divided into 2 areas. The first one is semi outdoor, the second one is indoor. I loved their semi outdoor area. They’re playing with colourful colours. Created such a cheerful ambiance. A bit different at the indoor area, a little bit more calm and elegant.

From those 5 tacos, I loved the Albondigas. Meatballs were always my favourite.
The other were also great, but not my favourites.
But I believe, everybody loves the tacos.

OMG! The crispy skin salmon was dabomb. The salmon meat was also delicious. I think they presented the salmon in a great portion. Love the presentation with sweet corn and ginseng leaves. Pretty and lovely.

Loewy at Oakwood Premier Cozmo Mega Kuningan Jakarta

March 5th, 2017. I went to this place several times. But I think, I never wrote it on my blog. So, when I got a chance to try their new menus, I was very happy. I scheduled my Sunday.. yes my busy Sunday hahahaha *ssst I went 3 venues at the time*.. and finally had a chance to review about it on my blog. Loewy.

The idea to establish Loewy was a spontaneous one: that there is a need in Jakarta for a casual bistro – an everyday place with an interesting but accessible menu, a well-designed but informal décor, and adding to the mix: a buzzing, energetic bar serving the best, stiffest drinks in town. The inspiration came from traditional Parisian bistros by way of New York City. The style of the interior is retro/classic with a modern interpretation. The original Thonet chairs, the leather banquet seats, the subway beveled tiles, the tin and copper ceiling panels, the white brick walls; evoking this “Paris bistro meets New York loft in the 1940’s“ feel. It is then combined with a modern layout and concept, creating an overall ambience that is uncluttered, clean, understated, and timeless.

Loewy was very happening since the day it was opened. Until now, of course. I remember my first time going there. I tried their best signature, Egg Benedict. And it was marvelous. I fell in love in a jiffy. Located in Oakwood Premier Cozmo, Mega Kuningan, Loewy was very easy to find. They opened in the morning since 1am. Wow, right? When you walk in, you will feel like in a bar or a bistro in a movie. Such an elegant movie-star feeling. Hahaha.. By the way, Loewy divided into 3 areas. A bar, a dining room and outdoor area.

For starter, I chose tuna carpaccio first. Slices of tuna, sprinkled by sesame seed.  Such a tremendously simple and light meal that will leave you with a big smile on your face after layers of slices hahaha. Don’t forget, squeeze the lemon.

I didn’t know they used wasabi dressing. LOL. Love the presentation, though. Colourful but with calm colours, like greenish, yellowish and reddish. Errr.. sounds like traffic light hahahahaha.. Generous portion, for sure. I didn’t like avocado, but the chicken was delicious.

Roasted Duck with Hoisin Sauce 110k

Never liked hoisin sauce. Well, I still tried it, and still didn’t like it hahaha. The roasted duck, served with warm rice and kailan. Actually when I poked the duck, I thought it will be dry. But turned out it’s not. It’s not excessively juicy but it’s quite tender with delicious taste.

Everybody loved this. I didn’t really like it, maybe because I got a hard one. Everybody said that it was tender and juicy. Too bad, right? I got the not-tender and not-juicy *sobbing* Served with french fries, I prefer mashed potato. Errr.. it’s very hard to make me happy, ya? LOL.

Lamb Fricassee 180k

BEST! The lamb was delicate and succulent. I guess one of the best lamb. Fricassee is from Greek. I think it’s a classic way to cook the lamb. It’s not smelly at all. Love the broth. I tempted to ask for another rice hahahaha..

Fricassee or fricassée /ˈfrɪkəs/ is a method of cooking meat in which it is cut up, sautéed and braised, and served with its sauce, traditionally a white sauce. Fricassee can also refer to a type of sandwich made in Tunisia with fried bread and typically filled with many ingredients including tuna, olives, hard-boiled egg, middle eastern tomato salad, and others.

Cotton Cheese Cake 70k

with Blueberry Compote, Lemon Cream

One of the best cheese cake. Fluffy texture with sweet and sour taste from the cake and blueberry and lemon. Blend beautifully. Too bad I didn’t take many photos because everybody looked so impatient to try this one. I was afraid they will eat me if I took photos much more longer. Hahahaha..

Those worthy pots. I tried both of them. The Chocolate and The Caramel. I loved both of them, but if they asked me to choose only one, I will pick the caramel custard pot. It’s creamy and silky with heavenly taste. Recommended!

The Dutch 18 Parc Place SCBD Jakarta

September 2nd, 2016. It’s been 6 months since its opening last March 2016. I’ve been aiming to visit this place since I heard about it. But, too busy with my life, it never happened, until now. I finally came there. Finally!!! LOL. I present to you. The Dutch.

A modern gastropub – by UNION group – serving elevated comfort food with a creative edge by Chef Chris Moes and a wide selection of beers on tap. 

Located on the ground floor of office building around SCBD, it’s really a convenient venue for lunch meeting for workers around the area. I knew the place because it used to be my hubby’s office building *not anymore now* 🙂 Ok, let’s talk about the place. When I stepped inside, I found the place was quite calm. A dim-litted gastropub with moody ambiance. It’s not spacious in size, but it’s not crowded also. It’s just a perfect space for having comfortable lunch. Smoking area is at bar and front area. So, if you’re not smoking, pick the table on the back area. And, like any other UNION group’s restaurant, they have baskets to put your bags. Neat.

Caesar Salad is one of the “safe” salad that you can order anywhere. You can be pretty sure, it’s delicious. It’s a kind of salad that everybody likes. Hahaha. It won’t make you full, and you surely can eat another dish with less guilt. Yes, because you’ve already ate salad. Healthy salad. LOL.

Greek Salad with Feta Cheese

I don’t like red onion in salad. So, sorry, I didn’t try this one. Just tasted the feta cheese. Yeah, I like cheese. What I love about this dish, it’s so pretty. Colourful, cheerful and wonderful presentation. And it is very healthy hahaha.. Soooo not my freaking kind of food. LOL.

Split Pea Soup, ‘Rookworst’, Brioche, Smoked Butter

When I sip a spoonful of this soup, I said, “This is so good!” Love the texture of it. Thick and rich. Savoury and tasty. And lucky me, I could finish it all hahahaha.. The rookworst enhanced the flavour with its taste. But. Yup but. But, the smoked butter was the superstar I guess. It’s just so very very good, I wanted to ask a refill to the bowl. LOL.

Rookworst is a type of Dutch sausage in which ground meat is mixed with spices and salt and stuffed into a casing. Rookworst is a traditional ingredient in stamppot.

Spaghetti with Spiced Pork Belly

Spicy. That’s the first thing that I find about this dish. The texture of the spaghetti was al dente, of course, which is not my palate. I prefer a little bit overcooked hahaha.. Silly me, right? The spiced pork belly didn’t dominate the flavour of the pasta. I could still taste the spiciness *sigh*

Red Pesto Rigatoni with Grilled Vegetables

They didn’t serve this dish so I couldn’t take picture of it. So, if you want to know the presentation or the taste, you order it lah by yourself. Do not wait for the photo in my review. Don’t! Please don’t. Well, actually I am not familiar with rigatoni. I just googled it. It said in Wikipedia: Rigatoni are a form of tube-shaped pasta of varying lengths and diameters. They are larger than penne and ziti, and sometimes slightly curved, though nowhere near as curved as elbow macaroni. So, yeah, order it, take the picture of it, and tag me, okay. LOL.

Kebab Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce

It’s huge. Hahaha. Yeah, the biggest satay I’ve ever tried, I guess. The presentation? Mouthwatering. I was drooling when I saw it in front of me. 🙂 But. I hope they make the rice cake softer. It’s a little bit too hard for me. Yeah, an old lady like me, need softer food hahahaha..  The Peanut Sauce was perfect. Perfect texture, perfect taste, perfect for me. I love peanut sauce like I love peanut butter like I love you guys *aaaaaaaaw..*

Grilled Ox Tongue with Garlic Long Beans and Jasmine Rice

Hmm.. I think grilled ox tongue is similar with gyutan. Am I right? Well, I’m not a food expert. I just loved food. In my foodictionary *hahaha new word!!* there’s only 2 kind of food. Delicious and Very delicious! Hihihi. And I dare to call myself foodie!!! Ok, let’s stop talking about the fun fact hahaha.. This one was very delish. It’s tender and juicy and soft and flavourful and rich and succulent and I can tell you many words that describe the taste of it. But, I will stop. I think you guys already knew what I meant. Now we talk about the jasmine rice. I won’t talk about the garlic long beans. It’s long beans. Period. The jasmine rice was aromatic and well cooked. So yeah, it’s recommended.

Bread & Butter Pudding with Raspberry Sorbet

The raspberry sorbet is sexy. The bread and butter pudding is not that special for me. It’s good.. It’s good.. *niddle-noddle* it’s just not that special. 🙂 Taste good, but prefer mushier.

Brownie with Caramel Sauce and Coconut Ice Cream

Flavor wise, this was one of the best brownie I’ve ever tried. It’s dense but soft and very rich in texture and flavour. They can make it less sweet, though. It’s a little bit too sweet for me, but I guess, a little sweet now and then doesn’t hurt.

Tuna Tataki 125k

Wasabi Mayo, Charred Cauliflower

It’s tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth. It’s the winner!! Superb. Actually, the name is very ear-catching. Tataki. It’s actually a method of preparing fish or meat in Japanese cuisine. Tataki means pounded. The meat or fish is seared very briefly over a hot flame or in a pan, and can be briefly marinated in vinegar, sliced thinly and seasoned with ginger (which is ground or pounded into a paste, hence the name). That’s how the fish got the tenderness. Most recommended!!

Peach & Oreo Cheesecake 65k

Chocolate Ice Cream

Mix peach and oreo and cheesecake. It explodes in your mouth. The cheesecake was soft, like the texture of dense mousse. The sweetness of the peach balanced out the flavour of the cheesecake. Don’t forget the chocolate ice cream. It was one fresh cake to candy-coat your day.

Poffertjes Nutella and Banana 45k

My favourite!!! The banana is very sweet with caramel on top, served with nutella all over the poffertjes. It was addicting, ladies and gentlemen! How many poffertjes I ate that time? I lost count! Hahahahaha.. *devil laugh* Yeah, they had to make it one more portion hahahahahahaha *happy face* So, when someone asks me, “What’s fluffy and sweet and addicting?” I will answer in a jiffy, “ME!” Pffffttt.. wrong answer!! It’s Poffertjes Nutella and Banana from The Dutch!! Yaaay!!

Poffertjes are a traditional Dutch batter treat. Resembling small, fluffy pancakes, they are made with yeast and buckwheat flour. Unlike American pancakes, they have a light, spongy texture.

Benedict (New Menu) Grand Indonesia Thamrin Jakarta

November 4th, 2015. I went to Benedict to try their new menu. I always love their place. Moody ambiance with friendly people. And the lovely thing, my favourite spot there, now a non-smoking seat. Yaaaaaay!

Matcha Matcha Cake 60k

The main star is the Green Tea Mousse, made from premium Japanese green tea. Layered with Red Bean Paste, and finished off with a Green Tea infused White Chocolate shavings.

For some people maybe it’s not bitter enough. But for me, it’s enough. It’s perfect for my palate. But I told them that the texture was not quite delicate. I prefer a smooth and delicate texture for my cake. Especially for this matcha cake.

Japanese Benedict 80k

Chef Fernando created this dish with Shiitake Mushroom infused Rice Patties and torched Dynamite Sauce topped off with a sprinkle of Seaweed and Toasted Sesame Seeds.

What a scrumptious combination between rice patties and egg benedict. It’s like da bomb! The texture of the rice patties was amazingly perfect. Yeah, rice was always perfect for me LOL. The egg benedict was superb. Tasted so good I think I was in love with their egg benedict over and over again.

Benedict’s Bubur Ayam 70k

Topped with Aromatic Chicken and Shredded Duck, Shaved Foie Gras, homemade “Cakwe”, 63 degrees Egg and Spicy Peanut Sauce. A great gourmet take on your favorite comfort food.

Big portion. But I prefer they added more taste on it. It’s too bland for me. Very generous with the filling. And the texture of the porridge was flawless. The cakwe was addicting, though. But, as I said before, I need a richer taste on it.

Hangover Cure 65k

Chef Fernando’s version of “Indomie” noodles on steroids. Sliced Pork Confit, Crispy Pork Belly, Pork Lardons, Gyoza, 63-Degree Egg, “Dabu-Dabu” Chili and Bacon Broth, it is also available with chicken instead than pork. An absolute must-try, and we can guarantee a satisfied sigh of pleasure after the first slurp.

Indomie was always favourite. I had high expectation to this dish. Too bad, it needed more taste in it too. Still, generous topping. But could be richer in taste. It was delicious, but not as “indomie” as it should be. LOL. And now, I’m craving for “indomie.” Hahahaha..

Benedict Gyoza

Japanese Gyoza filled with minced chicken, foie gras, cabagge served with ponzu sauce.

Gyoza was always a simple menu but always made me craving for more. Benedict Gyoza was one of the best, I guess. The filling was very generous. The texture of the skin was fantastic. And I prefer to eat it without the ponzu sauce. Maybe because the gyoza itself was already tasty.

Asian Cobb Salad

Serves as the perfect light meal, full of protein and veggies with spicy Nuoc Cham dressing.

I didn’t like this asian cobb salad. Really really not my favourite. But people said that the salad was the best. I think it’s because I’m not a fans of spicy Nuoc Cham dressing. Sorry Chef, not my preference.

Benedict Burrito

Our homemade tortilla filled with Mexican Rice, choice of Mushroom or Chipotle Chicken, Braised Beans, Lettuce, Avocado, Habanero Salsa, accompanied with Shoestring Fries and Side Salad.

Never found a delicious burrito, until I ate this Benedict Burrito. That’s true! I loved their chipotle chicken. So delicious. And their Habanero Salsa was amazing. The combination of braised beans, lettuce, and avocado were pretty smart. They worked together as a gorgeous filling with the chicken. And the shoestring fries? Número uno.

A burrito is a type of Mexican and Tex-Mex food, consisting of a wheat flour tortilla wrapped or folded into a cylindrical shape to completely enclose the filling.

Mushroom Ragout Tagliatelle

Are you a creamed spinach fan? Do you also love mushrooms and pasta? Ever wish you could combine all three? Then you’ll surely love this!

Errr.. not me. I used to love spinach, but for some times I didn’t really like it anymore. Got bored, I guess. The mushroom was delicious but I think it needed more creamy texture. Well, I prefer the creamier LOL.

Tagliatelle and tagliolini is a traditional type of pasta from Emilia-Romagna and Marche, regions of Italy. Individual pieces of tagliatelle are long, flat ribbons that are similar in shape to fettuccine and are typically about 6.5 mm to 10 mm wide.

Oxtail Orecchiette

There’s just something about the beefy, meaty oxtails imparting their flavor into a rich and hearty sauce with pasta.

OMG! This was so good!!! I tried a spoonful and fell in love right away. First, I raised my eyebrows when I looked at the presentation. Yup, I was being skeptical about this dish. But, yeah, after one spoonful, I grabbed the plate and planned to finish it all by myself. LOL. I was in love with the velvety texture and rich taste of the oxtail. And the orecchiette was soft with chewy texture. Such an adorable dish.

Orecchiette is a variety of home-made pasta typical of Apulia, a region of southern Italy. Its name comes from its shape, which resembles a small ear. In the vernacular of Taranto it is called recchietedd, or chiancaredd.

Pan-Seared Snapper

The newest creation from Chef Fernando Sindu. It’s beautiful and surely tastes amazing as well!

The snapper was a little bit over-cooked. But the rice was delicious. Actually, I think it’s orzo. Very similar with rice. Totally forgot to ask them. But, it’s delicious, indeed.

Udon Vongole

Served with Spicy Clams, Chorizo Sausage, Pumpkin Shoots, Seaweed and Green Verde Sauce. You will get addicted to this!

I surely loved the clams and the chorizo sausage. This was my first time to eat udon with vongole. It’s a slightly brothy bowl filled with chewy soft udon, chorizo sausage, seaweed and lots of clams. But again, I prefer a thicker sauce. Furthermore, no complaint from me.
