Wee Nam Kee Grand Indonesia East Mall Thamrin Jakarta

October 1st, 2016. Once upon a time, I went to Singapore with my beloved Mom, sisters and brother. And I remember it’s like yesterday, we went to this place because everybody told us about this delicious place to eat Chicken Rice. And we were so happy because it was delicious. I still remember Mom’s smile. Miss her so much it hurts. And last year, they opened in Indonesia, in BSD City for exact. I haven’t got a chance to go there and try the place. Until I saw that they will open in Grand Indonesia. Yaaaay, closer to my home. Finally, I can try this one. Wee Nam Kee.

IMG_7905

Originally a father and son family owned business, which started in 1987, the Famous Wee Nam Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant for two generations has proudly preserved the heritage and recipes refined over the years. Since 1989, Wee Nam Kee was initially a Chicken Rice specialty shop and eventually evolved into a restaurant serving a board range of Nanyang inspired dishes to complement famous signature Hainanese dishes.

Singapore’s true Hainanese Chicken Rice is perfect and recognized by many food lovers to be well represented by Wee Nam Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant. Starting from 4 outlets in Singapore, Wee Nam Kee has been expanding to Japan, Philippines, Korea, and now Wee Nam Kee is opening in Indonesia with a brighter look while still remain the same food quality and features an energetic ambience for a traditional dish.

IMG_7888

Opened in November 2015 at The Breeze BSD City, and now we open our second branch in Indonesia at Grand Indonesia. Wee Nam Kee Indonesia comes up with a new ambience and delightful menu. By delivering an original and authentic taste of Chicken Rice along from Singapore, Wee Nam Kee Indonesia is looking forward to fulfill Indonesian’s appetite.

Welcome Wee Nam Kee to a closer area from my home hahaha.. The place is not big, but enjoyable enough for a family lunch or dinner. Typical Chinese modern restaurant with marble tables and beautiful lightings.

Signature Chicken

with choice of Steamed, Roasted or Soya Sauce Chicken

Quarter Chicken (for 2) 69k – Half Chicken (for 3-5) 115k – Whole Chicken (for 6-8) 215k

Of course their signature is the chicken. Whether you ordered steamed chicken or roasted chicken or soya sauce chicken, it’s your choice. But, I prefer the soya sauce chicken. It’s tastier, even though they had same texture meat. The difference was the flavour, of course. Well, you can half mix the chicken. Half steamed and half roasted. Half steamed and half soya sauce. I enjoyed the chicken very much.

Sambal Noodles with Seafood 48k

I tried a bit, because it’s quite spicy. But I love the texture of the noodles. Tender and soft. And it was sweet, sour, spicy altogether. You can taste the mix of it in one slurp. And the flavour of the seafood was very rich.  I guess this one was a recommended dish if you like spicy noodles.

Congratulations Wee Nam Kee for the 2nd outlet. Hope to see another outlets all around Indonesia.

Abura Soba Yamatoten Tokyo Grand Indonesia Thamrin Jakarta

December 11th, 2015. Great news! Abura Soba Yamatoten Tokyo now opens near me yaaaaaay!!! I don’t need to go to Pantai Indah Kapuk. I just need to stroll myself to Grand Indonesia. Woohoo!! So happy!! When I got the invitation from Becky Tumewu, I was like, “OHMAIGAT! OH MAI GAT!” I was so in love with their soba, I wanna cry when I got the invitation before they open to public. What an honour. LOL.

IMG_0253

I waited for a friend at coffee shop around West Mall. Then, we walked to East Mall and approached another friends. Voila! I was in the latest outlet of Abura Soba Yamatoten Tokyo. Hihihi. The place wasn’t very spacious but quite comfortable. I met some fellow foodies there. After talking to my friends, I took some pictures of the place. Oh by the way, I met Becky Tumewu in person. At last. She was like the most humble famous person. She always smiled and asked us if we needed anything.

IMG_0251 IMG_0252 IMG_0254 IMG_0266

Abura Soba 59k

Original Abura Soba served with chopped spring onions, sesame seeds, bamboo shoots, dried seaweeds and slices of tender roast pork or chicken.

Still my favourite. Delicate texture and delightful taste. I ate this abura soba with happy face. I really really like it. Don’t forget to add 2 rounds of vinegar and chili oil. You can add it more if you like. Whatever your tastebud, it’s your risk. Hahaha. I was tempted to speak with devil voice: “Enter your own risk HAHAHAHA” but well, it’s not appropriate I guess. LOL.

IMG_0262

Jya-Jya Abura Soba 68k

Abura Soba served with minced meat in sweet soy bean paste, spring onion, sesame seeds and dried seaweed. Comes with choices pork or chicken.

Didn’t try it at all, so sorry no review about this one. Maybe later. I will try it by myself. 🙂

IMG_0260

Umewasabi Abura Soba 68k

Abura Soba served cold! It is refreshing with a tangy touch of special plum and wasabi paste. Topped with dried seaweed, fresh tomato, fried lotus and chicken chasu.

It’s one of their new menus. I just tried the chicken chasu. It was so good. But I didn’t really like cold soba, so yeah not one of my favourite. But my friends told me that it was quite good. 🙂

IMG_0272

Kare Abura Soba 65k

It is not your ordinary kind of Kare sauce, our special twist use 10 kinds of herbs and spices to tease your tastebuds. Available in pork and chicken meat.

It’s another new menu. I tried a slurrrrp and yeah, not my favourite too. Well, I prefer the original Abura Soba. Sorry Yamatoten, but I won’t have a change of heart. Abura Soba original still my favourite so far.

IMG_0257

Soft Broiled Pork 48k

One word: HEAVEN. Ugh I’m drooling while writing this review. Recommended side dish.

Popolamama Grand Indonesia Thamrin Jakarta

December 6th, 2015. I went to Popolamama at Grand Indonesia level 3A. They’re launching new menu for this holiday season. I love their place. It’ quite big with lovely ambiance. I came with a bunch of food-enthusiasts (thanks for the invitation guys). We were so lucky to be the first to try those appetizing food and exquisite desserts before they launch it to public.

IMG_0162 IMG_0160 IMG_0164

Popolamama combined Japanese food and Italian food. Popolamama itself came from the words: popolare (popular) and mama (mom). In Italy it means something like: the best food was mom’s cooking. The first Italian Fresh Pasta and Homemade Napoli Style Pizza. Fyi, this is their 3rd outlet in Jakarta. Comfortable place to eat lunch or dinner.

IMG_0163 IMG_0161 IMG_0159 IMG_0166

NEW HOLIDAY MENU

Arabiatta Shrimp Pasta 85k

Arrabiata sauced blended with fresh pasta and topped with six deep fried king prawns & mizuna

Spicy but addicting. And I love the texture of the pasta. A little bit soft and delicate. But do you know what I love the most? The king prawns!! They were delicious and well-seasoned. Crunchy crispy texture. I ate it and complained, “Aaaargh spicy. Me no likey.” But, my fork came back to the plate over and over again. LOL.

Arrabbiata sauce, or sugo all’arrabbiata in Italian, is a spicy sauce for pasta made from garlic, tomatoes, and red chili peppers cooked in olive oil. “Arrabbiata” literally means “angry” in Italian; the name of the sauce may well be due to the heat of the chili pepper and one’s reaction to it.

Mizuna (ミズナ(水菜, “water greens”), shui cai, kyona, Japanese mustard, potherb mustard, Japanese greens, California peppergrass, or spider mustard is a cultivated variety of Brassica rapa nipposinica. The name is also used for Brassica juncea var. japonica.

IMG_0176

Seafood Platter 120k

Deep fried dory, calamari, & king prawns with durum semolina flour, dip it to our signature Aioli Sauce

Simple dish. Just dory, calamity and king prawns. But, it was worth the price! Delicious with big portion! I couldn’t stop munching the king prawns. And the calamari was in perfect texture. Not too hard to chew. The dory was tender and very mild. It was a very nice starter. Order this while you eating with your buddies. Trust me. You aren’t going to play with your gadgets because you are too busy chewing this and having fun with your very best friends. It’s like, seafood platter’s connecting people. LOL.

The durum wheat is milled to remove the bran and germ, leaving the rich yellow endosperm granules called semolina. This is then ground into flour and used to make pasta. Semolina granules are used for cereals and couscous.

IMG_0186

RICE MENU

Wafu Kara-age Rice 48k

Deep fried chicken kara-age with special wafu soy sauce, served with steamed rice and bano wafu sauce salad

IMG_0182

Chicken Teriyaki Rice 48k

Grilled chicken teriyaki – fragrant and tender, served with steamed rice and roasted sesame salad

I fell in love. Over and over again. Salty, sweet and delicious chicken teriyaki that are perfect to serve over rice. And the chicken was boneless. Superb! Mix the chicken and the rice, and the flavours worked so well together. Recommended dish. One of the best chicken teriyaki dish. I still remember the taste of it, swimming in my mouth. Truly a winner.

IMG_0183

Chicken Cacciatore Rice 48k

Slow cooked chicken breast with tomato cacciatore sauce, sautéed carrot and buna shimeji mushroom, served with steamed rice and roasted sesame salad

IMG_0185

NEW DESSERTS

Choco Banana Pizza 55k

Need more banana and more chocolate. Maybe they should pour the chocolate all over the banana. They called it pizza but the shape wasn’t like pizza at all. Hihihi. I prefer they make it like pizza. 😀

IMG_0196

Green Tea Tiramisu 48k

OMG! Best green tea tiramisu ever! I didn’t really like green tea, except it’s kit kat green tea LOL. But, combine it with tiramisu, it was scrumptious. Very very recommended. The texture was very delicate. Velvety fluffy. Ugh, I’m drooling right now. And btw, I was shocked that this photo in my IG finally got more than 1000 likes. Woohoo!! Please check my IG. @yennymichael

IMG_0193

Chocolate Mousse 35k

Perfect texture, sweetness and chocolate flavour. Super creamy! Have you ever tried cloud? Well, I think it’s similar with this mousse. Hihihi. It’s so fluffy, I’m gonna die!!!

IMG_0194

Mix Berries Smoothie 42k

I love it. It’s so sweet. Some people said it’s too sweet. But for me, it’s perfect. Refreshing with great texture of smoothie. Such a perfect drink to welcome this holiday season. Happy holiday guys.

IMG_0188

Overall, I like those new holiday season menu. Popolamama did a great job on those delicious food and delightful desserts. Keep up the good work!!

Benedict (New Menu) Grand Indonesia Thamrin Jakarta

November 4th, 2015. I went to Benedict to try their new menu. I always love their place. Moody ambiance with friendly people. And the lovely thing, my favourite spot there, now a non-smoking seat. Yaaaaaay!

Matcha Matcha Cake 60k

The main star is the Green Tea Mousse, made from premium Japanese green tea. Layered with Red Bean Paste, and finished off with a Green Tea infused White Chocolate shavings.

For some people maybe it’s not bitter enough. But for me, it’s enough. It’s perfect for my palate. But I told them that the texture was not quite delicate. I prefer a smooth and delicate texture for my cake. Especially for this matcha cake.

IMG_9400

Japanese Benedict 80k

Chef Fernando created this dish with Shiitake Mushroom infused Rice Patties and torched Dynamite Sauce topped off with a sprinkle of Seaweed and Toasted Sesame Seeds.

What a scrumptious combination between rice patties and egg benedict. It’s like da bomb! The texture of the rice patties was amazingly perfect. Yeah, rice was always perfect for me LOL. The egg benedict was superb. Tasted so good I think I was in love with their egg benedict over and over again.

IMG_9385

Benedict’s Bubur Ayam 70k

Topped with Aromatic Chicken and Shredded Duck, Shaved Foie Gras, homemade “Cakwe”, 63 degrees Egg and Spicy Peanut Sauce. A great gourmet take on your favorite comfort food.

Big portion. But I prefer they added more taste on it. It’s too bland for me. Very generous with the filling. And the texture of the porridge was flawless. The cakwe was addicting, though. But, as I said before, I need a richer taste on it.

IMG_9368

Hangover Cure 65k

Chef Fernando’s version of “Indomie” noodles on steroids. Sliced Pork Confit, Crispy Pork Belly, Pork Lardons, Gyoza, 63-Degree Egg, “Dabu-Dabu” Chili and Bacon Broth, it is also available with chicken instead than pork. An absolute must-try, and we can guarantee a satisfied sigh of pleasure after the first slurp.

Indomie was always favourite. I had high expectation to this dish. Too bad, it needed more taste in it too. Still, generous topping. But could be richer in taste. It was delicious, but not as “indomie” as it should be. LOL. And now, I’m craving for “indomie.” Hahahaha..

IMG_9374 IMG_9377

Benedict Gyoza

Japanese Gyoza filled with minced chicken, foie gras, cabagge served with ponzu sauce.

Gyoza was always a simple menu but always made me craving for more. Benedict Gyoza was one of the best, I guess. The filling was very generous. The texture of the skin was fantastic. And I prefer to eat it without the ponzu sauce. Maybe because the gyoza itself was already tasty.

IMG_9366

Asian Cobb Salad

Serves as the perfect light meal, full of protein and veggies with spicy Nuoc Cham dressing.

I didn’t like this asian cobb salad. Really really not my favourite. But people said that the salad was the best. I think it’s because I’m not a fans of spicy Nuoc Cham dressing. Sorry Chef, not my preference.

IMG_9371

Benedict Burrito

Our homemade tortilla filled with Mexican Rice, choice of Mushroom or Chipotle Chicken, Braised Beans, Lettuce, Avocado, Habanero Salsa, accompanied with Shoestring Fries and Side Salad.

Never found a delicious burrito, until I ate this Benedict Burrito. That’s true! I loved their chipotle chicken. So delicious. And their Habanero Salsa was amazing. The combination of braised beans, lettuce, and avocado were pretty smart. They worked together as a gorgeous filling with the chicken. And the shoestring fries? Número uno.

A burrito is a type of Mexican and Tex-Mex food, consisting of a wheat flour tortilla wrapped or folded into a cylindrical shape to completely enclose the filling.

IMG_9387

Mushroom Ragout Tagliatelle

Are you a creamed spinach fan? Do you also love mushrooms and pasta? Ever wish you could combine all three? Then you’ll surely love this!

Errr.. not me. I used to love spinach, but for some times I didn’t really like it anymore. Got bored, I guess. The mushroom was delicious but I think it needed more creamy texture. Well, I prefer the creamier LOL.

Tagliatelle and tagliolini is a traditional type of pasta from Emilia-Romagna and Marche, regions of Italy. Individual pieces of tagliatelle are long, flat ribbons that are similar in shape to fettuccine and are typically about 6.5 mm to 10 mm wide.

IMG_9391

Oxtail Orecchiette

There’s just something about the beefy, meaty oxtails imparting their flavor into a rich and hearty sauce with pasta.

OMG! This was so good!!! I tried a spoonful and fell in love right away. First, I raised my eyebrows when I looked at the presentation. Yup, I was being skeptical about this dish. But, yeah, after one spoonful, I grabbed the plate and planned to finish it all by myself. LOL. I was in love with the velvety texture and rich taste of the oxtail. And the orecchiette was soft with chewy texture. Such an adorable dish.

Orecchiette is a variety of home-made pasta typical of Apulia, a region of southern Italy. Its name comes from its shape, which resembles a small ear. In the vernacular of Taranto it is called recchietedd, or chiancaredd.

IMG_9363

Pan-Seared Snapper

The newest creation from Chef Fernando Sindu. It’s beautiful and surely tastes amazing as well!

The snapper was a little bit over-cooked. But the rice was delicious. Actually, I think it’s orzo. Very similar with rice. Totally forgot to ask them. But, it’s delicious, indeed.

IMG_9392

Udon Vongole

Served with Spicy Clams, Chorizo Sausage, Pumpkin Shoots, Seaweed and Green Verde Sauce. You will get addicted to this!

I surely loved the clams and the chorizo sausage. This was my first time to eat udon with vongole. It’s a slightly brothy bowl filled with chewy soft udon, chorizo sausage, seaweed and lots of clams. But again, I prefer a thicker sauce. Furthermore, no complaint from me.

IMG_9396

Thanks Benedict for those delicious food. It surely drew a happy smile on my face.

[EVENT] Markette to Table Publik Markette Grand Indonesia Thamrin Jakarta

September 20th, 2015. I was invited to Sunday Brunch event called Markette to Table at Publik Markette. Located at East Mall Grand Indonesia, Publik Markette was always crowded with people. Psst, their pork belly was amazingly fantastic. I was there with a bunch of foodies and media. It’s so fun!! Actually, the place was very cozy, I never mind to go back to the place over and over again.

Invitation-brunch-PM-kotak IMG_7958

This time, I didn’t take a lot of pictures because I’ve already reviewed the place. I just loved how they decorate the place. It’s cute and adorable.

APPETIZER

Fritaffle 65k

with Poached Egg, bacon, cheddar and slapyo’ mama sauce

This was good. The poached egg was amazingly delicious. Perfect texture. How about the waffle? It’s beyond compare. Cripsy, buttery, tender, and so on and so on. I think about the fritaffle right now, and literally drooling. Well, it’s lunch time, I guess I should eat after this. Pffft, I think that’s why I use the hashtag #yennymakanmulu hahaha. It’s really represent me. Always eat. 😀

IMG_7975

Summer Super Bowl 65k

mixed granola with berries compote, chia seeds, nuts, honey yoghurt and milk

Granola was never my favourite. But this one was beyond my expectation. I thought it will be too sour. I was so wrong. It’s fresh, a little bit sour and sweet, of course from the honey yoghurt. And I really love the caramelized pear! Genius dish!

IMG_7967

MAIN COURSE

The Havana 125k

the real cubano sandwich, with a choice of pork or chicken, served with ham, cheddar cheese, pickles and spicy fries

I love this sandwich. It’s soft with pork, ham, cheese. Perfect sandwich. The pork was very well-seasoned. It was definitely my favourite sandwich. The spicy fries was also delicious. Love the texture. I was a picky when we talked about fries. Only those with perfect texture will make me happy.

IMG_7992

Jucy Lucy 135k

180gr Black Angus Burger with double cheese stuffing, bacon (turkey or pork) and seasoned fries

What a huge burger! The patty was thick and delicious. It was tender and juicy. But the great thing about this burger was the double cheese stuffing in between. We ate the burger sharing each other. So, we didnt’ too full. The food was still coming. How about the seasoned fries? Just perfect.

IMG_7990

Lord of Bacon 135k

ham, bacon pork belly, spam and arnold sauce with fried egg

Bacon pork belly. Hmm.. should I say anything? Really, anything? Well ok, it’s juicy and delicious. The spam was also my favourite. LOL. I love everything about pork. I think many people will agree with me. Pork is the most delicious food. I wish everybody can eat pork. Hihihi.. Btw, I love how they put fried egg inside the burger. It was brilliant. Pork and egg. I love those combination. And they can add cheese too. Ugh, drooling!

IMG_7987

Yukatan Rice Bowl 90k

with egg, avocado, corn and tortilla

I tried the dish, and I was very sure, this wasn’t my favourite. I didn’t like avocado and tortilla wasn’t my favourite too. So, I won’t say anything more. LOL. Well, I heard some people said, “Ugh it’s so good.” So, it must be good for some people. Not for me. Sorry. Huhuhu..

IMG_7994

DESSERT

Mix Berries Waffle 55k

with honey yoghurt and berries compote

As you can see, this one was brighter and prettier. Well, I took this picture outside, so I had a very great light, while the other food was taken inside. *sobbing* so sorry for the difference quality of pictures. But, I believe you guys know the difficulty of taking pictures inside or outside. Well, the texture of the waffle was perfect. I love the honey yoghurt but I didn’t really like the berries compote. Too sour for me. I prefer only a small portion of the berries compote. But, if you like sour dessert, you will love it.

IMG_7998

Monkey Business 55k

chocolate, banana and cheese waffle with peanut butter ice cream

Cute name with a delicious taste. And of course, when I saw the name, I knew in a jiffy, it must be banana!!! LOL. I didn’t know why, they happened to have a perfect waffle. It’s crispy enough, buttery and tender at the same time. And the other thing that I liked was.. *drumroll* peanut butter ice cream. Yeah, I was crazy about peanut butter these days. So every dish that has peanut butter will be.. like.. my favourite. 😀
