From humble beginnings as a New York City hot dog cart to a world-renowned international restaurant chain, The Halal Guys story is the quintessential American Dream. The Halal Guys is defining a new, thriving segment for the restaurant industry: American Halal Food! The Halal Guys legend began in 1990, when the three founding partners opened up a hot dog cart on West 53rd & 6th Avenue in New York City. As business grew, they recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers looking for a halal food meal. That is when the famous platter of chicken and gyro over rice was born. And let’s not forget about the famous white and red sauces! Fast-forward 25 years, five carts, two New York City restaurants, and millions of diverse customers served, The Halal Guys is growing yet again. Fans no longer have to be in NYC to experience The Halal Guys as they look to share American Halal Food all over the country and the world.

The place is quite small. First we queue and choose which one we want, the platters or the sandwiches. Then choose the meat. Then the sides. And there’s dessert. After that, we pay and find a seat. And enjooooy. Please read below for a simple review.

The Halal Guys are the pioneers of American Halal Food. American Halal Food features a flavor profile that can’t be replicated in any other cuisine format, featuring flawlessly cooked, premium quality Halal meats that are seasoned to perfection and a melting pot of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors that are sure to delight. Once you have had a taste, you will understand why New Yorkers and tourists alike have stood in the city’s longest food cart line (sometimes for hours) to get a hot, steaming platter of chicken or gyro over rice, covered in The Halal Guys famous, proprietary White Sauce.

Chicken, Beef Gyro, Combo

Platters 55k Regular 80k Large

Served with rice, salad and our famous hot & white sauce.

I ordered the regular platters with Combo (Chicken and Gyro Beef). But because I don’t like spicy, I only approved the white sauce. LOL. Generous chicken and beef and rice and everything. Full tummy! I think regular platters can do for 2 persons. And if still hungry, you can order another menu. Oh yeah, it’s very delicious! The chicken and gyro beef were well-seasoned with tender texture. And the white sauce enhanced the creamy taste of the dish. No need to explain about the rice. Super recommended!

Sandwiches 55k

Served with your choice of toppings and our famous hot & white sauce

Same choice with the platters. But they used pita bread, instead of rice. Generous chicken and beef too. You can add side dishes too, for example fries. You can also ask for extra falafel, etc. Anyway, the pita read was good. It’s soft and fluffy and very tender. It’s not as hard-to-chew as any other pita bread I’ve ever tried. Definitely one of the best.

Tasted deliciously sweet, but the texture was a little bit dry. Well, I didn’t know whether it’s their type of baklava or not. But, it’s still very good. A perfect one to accomplish my satisfying lunch.
