February 29th, 2016. Actually I was planning to spend the day at home, because I was so tired after going home from Bandung. But on Sunday night, I met my bestie, Hans and he asked me to join him to a new opening place in Plaza Indonesia. So, I totally forgot about my exhaustion, and I said to him, “Yes sure, I’ll join you.” Voila! AMKC Atelier.
Gourmet eatery & Handmade pastry shop located in Plaza Indonesia by chef Adhika Maxi & Pastry chef Karen Carlotta, the amazing couple chef of UNION.
Located at level 1 Plaza Indonesia, AMKC Atelier was very eye-catching with their black and white decorations. And if you haven’t realized yet, AMKC stands for the chef and Pastry chef’s names. Adhika Maxi Karen Carlotta. This Atelier was their new baby. And they must be very proud. 🙂 Well, for me, the ambiance of AMKC Atelier was so classy yet humble. The service was friendly and very welcoming. Not intimidating. I was always happy to find a cordial place in this supercilious world.
But first, pardon my photos. Some photos are blurry, I don’t know why. Maybe because I was too excited to try the food and didn’t care about the photos LOL. So sorry.
Black Truffle Choux 65k
Love the presentation. It’s like bird nest. So cute. The choux was small and tasty. The truffle was fragrant and tasted very light yet rich. It’s really suitable for snacking while you’re waiting for your meal.
Basil Bread – Homemade Butter 35k
This one was very unique because it’s crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The butter was a little bit salty for me, but the texture was amazing. Overall, it’s really a proper starter. Recommended!
New England Clam Chowder 80k
When chef Adhika recommended us clam chowder, I was like, “Hmmm.. not my thing. Clam Chowder was always smell fishy.” But when I tried their clam chowder, it was totally different from my thought. It was creamy with delicious clam and crunchy croutons. Love it.
Hokkaido Scallop – Lemon XO Vinaigrette 230k
Scallop was never failed me. The texture of this scallop was beyond compare. Chewy, tender and easy to bite. And the lemon XO vinaigrette sauce was perfect for this succulent scallop. Recommended for those who loved scallop.
Fillet Mignon – Kale – Sauce Heritage 280k
Chef Adhika said to us, “Don’t you remember when your Mom made beef steak with delicious sauce, but the steak was hard to chew?” And we nodded, giggling, remembering those memories. He said, “Well, the sauce is like your Mom’s steak but we make it with more more tender meat.” LOL. I remembered my Mom’s exactly. Hahaha. And yes, I was very satisfied with the fillet mignon. It was medium rare with juicy and tender meat. I found it a little bit too salty on the top of the fillet. But, overall, it’s perfectly superb.
Kale or leaf cabbage is a group of vegetable cultivars within the plant species Brassica oleracea. They have green or purple leaves, in which the central leaves do not form a head.
Martabak Cake 40k
It’s like martabak chocolate and cheese altogether. Well, if you knew me, you will know why I didn’t really like this cake. Yes, there’s cheese in it. LOL. But, it smell so good. And the crumbs were unbelievable. Tasty and delicious. If you like chocolate, peanut and cheese in one cake, you should order this one.
Choco Banana Rum 45k
My favourite! I was in love with the chocolate, the banana and especially the rum. LOL. The cake was moist and delicious. The combination between chocolate, banana and rum was perfect. Chef Adhika asked me about the cakes and I said that this one was my favourite. He said, “Yes. It’s my favourite too.” I wonder what it’s like to be the husband of Pastry chef like Karen Carlotta. Must be really happy to eat those cakes every single day hahahaha. Well, for me, this was my recommendation for the cake. Try this when you come to AMKC Atelier!!
Es Teler Cake 45k
It’s definitely like es teler in a cake form. Applause for Pastry chef Karen Carlotta. Such a new innovation. It’s very remarkable. The texture of the cake was splendid. The jack fruit was the star in this cake, I guess. LOL. Well, you cannot say it’s es teler when it doesn’t have jack fruit, right? So yeah, it’s one recommended cake.
Pavlova was always a favourite for me. I love the meringue of course. It’s soft, light, fluffy and delicious. It melted in your mouth. The presentation was also beautiful. Layers of heaven. Another recommendation from me. 🙂
Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. It is a meringue cake with a crisp crust and soft, light inside, usually topped with fruit and, optionally, whipped cream.
Red Velvet Cake
First, I was hoping it’s the same cake as Union’s famous Red Velvet. Evidently, it’s not the same. They told us that it’s lighter than Union’s RV because they used sponge cake. And I found it’s true. It’s lighter with different taste. It’s still delicious but forgive me for choosing the previous RV. Sorry.
Overal, I was impressive. Thanks chef for the friendly gesture. Well, it’s a place that I will come back over and over again for their food and service. Yes, definitely will be back for more delicious food and cakes. Wait for me ya. 🙂
