monViet at Pondok Indah Mall 1 Jakarta

May 14th, 2017. Finally, I came to the latest outlet of monViet which located in Pondok Indah Mall 1. It’s opened a month ago, but I didn’t come. I promised the owner that I will come, but when the date changed, I wasn’t informed. So, I missed it. *sobbing* But, we finally had a chance to visit it.

The story of monViet started in the 1970’s when a Vietnamese mother left her village to open a noodle stall at a street corner in Saigon. She cooked the traditional noodle soup called Bun Bo Hue. Hue is a town in central Vietnam. Her noodle soup was so tasty, that people waited in front of her stall every day for it to open. The little noodle stall grew bigger, and after a few years the mother ran a noodle house that specialized in different kinds of home made noodle soup recipes. The family also grew bigger and in the end the little noodle house not only nurtured 9 sons and daughters, but also saw the birth of the family’s “secret recipes of life”.

You can read the rest of the story at their website: When they opened their first outlet, Hans asked me to join him to a foodtasting, and I’ve been in love with them since then. Thanks Hans.

Iced Tea 20k

Bun Bo Hue 76k

Signature beef noodle soup

I fell in love since the first time I tried this soup. It’s spicy but very delicious. I’ve been addicted to this one for 2 or 3 years, I guess hahahaha.. After that, I changed to another dish. But this one is still my recommendation to those who ask me about monViet signature dish.

My Pho Food Hall Grand Indonesia West Mall Thamrin Jakarta

June 16th, 2015. I went to My Pho with Jesfrid and Julia. Actually, Jesfrid asked me to accompany him to do the tasting. I had nothing to do that afternoon, so I said yes. I arrived at Grand Indonesia around 10.30am. I waited for them for an hour, then we directly went to Food Hall to find My Pho. And.. there it was..

The place was crowded because it’s lunch time. We met the owner, Ms Phan. She’s very nice and funny. Well, before I show you those Vietnamese food, let me show you the cute place. I didn’t take many photos, so if you want to know the place, just go there lah..

The Menu

Goi Cuon Tom & Ga 25k

Fresh Spring rolls with Chicken, Shrimp and Vegetables.

Not my favourite. I think I didn’t like the fragrant of it. And there’s something in it that I didn’t like. Hmm.. it’s still a mystery.. Hmm.. *suspicious gaze* Actually I didn’t like the rubbery texture of the wraps, too. I prefer the mushy one.

Cha Gio Que Huong 28k

Famous Fried Vietnamese Spring rolls with Chicken/Squid/Shrimp/Vegetables.

I prefer this fried spring rolls. Julia said, it’s too small, but for me, it’s a cute size. It’s springy and crispy at the same time. And I love the sauce. Dip the spring rolls to the sauce, and you’ll get addicted of it. Really nice for snacking time.

Banh Cuon 35k

Steam Rice Rolls with Chicken/Mushroom/Shrimp with our Special Sauce.

OMG! I was in love. So much in love. This was my favourite!!! I could eat all of them by myself. Actually, I planned to do that, but too bad, Julia noticed and she stared at me.. *if looks could kill LOL* The rice rolls were soft. Melt in your mouth!!! The fillings were delicious. If I had to describe it in one word, I would say, “HEAVEN!” And you know what, I will be back to My Pho, only to eat this. Trust me. It’s really THAT delicious.

Goi Ga 38k

Chicken Salad with our Special Vietnamese Sauce.

This was new menu. I didn’t have a chance to try it. I just took photo from someone that order it. Well, actually Ms. Phan asked me to take picture of it before she served it to her customer LOL.

Pho Tai Nam Bo Vien 55k

Beef Noodle Soup Combination of raw and well done beef, beef balls and tendon.

Their Pho was delicious, but I prefer richer taste in the broth. Those beef, beef balls and tendon were tender and easy to chew. I hate it when I had to fight with my meat. *sobbing*

Bun Bo Hue 48k

Spicy Beef Noodle Soup with Well-done Beef.

Actually it should be nice if not that spicy. Yup, it’s so spicy, all I could taste only spicy. I prefer not to finish it. Maybe if you like spicy noodle soup.. but for me? No.. sorry.. too spicy..

Bun Bu Nuong & Cha Gio 52k

Vermicelli with Grilled Beef/Fried Spring Rolls Vegetables with Our Special Vietnamese Sauce.

Another favourite of mine. It didn’t have much broth in it. But, I love vermicelli, easy to eat and very delicious. And the cha gio was very tasty. How to eat this? Pour the sauce, then mix it altogether. Then, enjoy!!!

Com Ga 46k

Vietnamese Grilled Chicken Seasoned with Our Special marinade topped with “Nuoc Man” Our Special Vietnamese Sauce. Served with Steamed Rice.

Rice dish! Finally! LOL. Yup, one of my favourites here. The chicken was very tender and well-seasoned. Served with fresh salad too. But I prefer to finish the chicken with the steamed rice hihihi. Recommended dish!

Thanks My Pho and Ms. Phan. And thanks a lot Jesfrid for asking me to join your private food tasting. See you again soon. 🙂

monViet Setiabudi One Jakarta

April 8th, 2015. I went to monViet at Setiabudi One. Yup, they had this second outlet last year. Their first outlet was in Kemang. You can see my review about the first outlet HERE.

I love their interior. They said that the Setiabudi outlet was similar with common restaurants in Vietnam. So, it’s very authentic. Not only the food, but also the ambiance.

Bún bò Huế Special

They have new menu. Actually it’s an improvement of their favourite dish, called Bún bò Huế. It’s Spicy Huế beef soup with rice vermicelli originated from the royal city of Huế in Central Vietnam. But.. they added the meat, so it’s not only beef but they also had chicken ham, meatball, and beef shank. And they used lemongrass too. Ah by the way, it’s spicy, but I love it. So good, I always emptied the bowl LOL

They also had a new surprise for us. Tea Time Experiment Vietnam. Tea Time in Vietnam a long time ago was only for Royal Family. So, now monViet wanna introduce to us, what it’s like to eat at Royal Family’s tea time. 🙂

Bánh Dúc

This bánh dúc was made of rice flour, glutinous rice flour and coconut milk. It’s so delicious. Tender and melt in your mouth. And the sauce was incredibly delicious. It was addicting! It was eaten as a dessert or savoury meal.

In southern Vietnam, bánh đúc is a dessert made from non-glutinous rice flour. It takes the form of gelatinous blocks that are often colored green by the addition of Pandanus amaryllifolius leaf extract. It is cooked by boiling the ingredients and allowing them to cool, solidifying into a jelly-like sheet that is then cut into blocks.

Bánh bột lọc tran

It’s a dumpling with wrappers made of rice flour with shrimp and chicken with madeo oil. Not my favourite, but my mother-in-law said that it was delicious 🙂

Bánh bột lọc: A Huế food, it consists of tiny rice dumplings made in a clear rice-flour batter, often in a small, flattish, tube shape, stuffed with shrimp and ground pork. It is wrapped and cooked inside a banana leaf, served often as Vietnamese hors d’œuvres at more casualbuffet-type parties.

Bánh It Tran

It was small stuffed glutinous rice flour balls and tapioca flour with lentil and minced chicken as the filling. Not my favourite either. The skin was too hard to chew for me. I prefer the tender one 🙂 But it was delicious too. I love the minced chicken.

IMG_2850 IMG_2920 IMG_2925

Bánh bèo chen

It was made of tapioca flour with mashed sauté shrimp and chicken as topping. And it was my favourite! Small steamed savory rice cakes. Delicious to the max!!! It was soft, tender, and very moist. Love the texture and the flavour. You should try yourself. Most recommended!!!
Bánh bèo: A central Vietnamese dish, it consists of tiny, round, rice flour pancakes, each served in a similarly shaped dish. They are topped withminced shrimp and other ingredients, such as chives, fried shallots, and pork rinds, eaten with nước chấm.
