Hoshino Tea Time at Menara BTPN Mega Kuningan Jakarta

August 30th, 2017. I had invitation at five star hotel around Mega Kuningan, so before the event, I went to Hoshino Tea Time first. It’s located at Menara BTPN Mega Kuningan.

IMG_3896

Since Taiwan is famous for their tea culture, our mission is to bring and introduce our world famous tea to Indonesia so that our customers can enjoy the unique taste and experience of Taiwan. The word Hoshino is taken from the family name of the third generation of Ten Ren’s Tea family tree. Ten Ren’s Tea has many different brands of cafĂ© throughout the world. With dreams of bringing Ten Ren’s tea to every part of the world, we are now available in Indonesia as Hoshino Tea Time, operated by Ten Ren’s Tea Japan. The Ten Ren Group is currently the biggest Chinese tea brand in the world with more than 2000 stores worldwide, such as in China, Hong Kong, Macau, North America, Canada, Australia, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and now available in Indonesia.

I saw about Hoshino from my IG timeline. I was very curious about the tea. They have outdoor and indoor area. I definitely chose to sit inside. I met the owner, a very nice person. He told me that he wanted to introduce tea to everybody. What an honour idea, right?

Teriyaki Chicken Bowl 43k

I tried this teriyaki chicken bowl and I was stunned with the delicious sauce and tender chicken. Actually I finished the bowl so quick, I forgot to remove the vegetables. I ate them all. And the bowl was very full, it made my tummy full too.

Unveiling The All-New Pearl Chinese Restaurant at JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta

September 20th, 2017. JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta introduced the new face of one of their restaurant, Pearl Chinese Restaurant. Located on the second floor and dominated by golden red color, this restaurant is now coming back by presenting a typical Chinese cuisine with Modern Cantonese nuances. I went to Pearl with Aline, Cindy and Vania. 🙂

IMG_5415

Known as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Jakarta, Pearl Chinese Restaurant offers a variety of Modern Cantonese culinary created by Executive Chinese Chef, Chef Ken Choy Chong Hung. In addition to the a la carte menu, Pearl also has an attractive dimsumlicious all-you-can-eat dimsum promotion where guests can order more than 40 Chinese dishes ranging from soups, appetizers, dimsum, main courses to desserts. This promotion is valid every Sunday, from 10.30 to 14.30 for 280k including free-flow chinese tea.

Dragons on the carpet. That’s definitely a strong character. Hahaha. Yes, I’m a dragon. That’s why I loved Pearl so very much. The place is still have the same ambiance with the previous Pearl. It didn’t lose its elegance touch.

Caramelized Wild Salmon 118k

The presentation was very beautiful. Love the colour of the salmon. They put pomelo on top of the salmon. It’s definitely one of the most beautiful and delicious salmon dish I’ve ever had. The texture of the salmon was tender and mild. The taste was also very light. Perfect for a starter in our lovely lunch.

IMG_5425 IMG_5426

Hand Made Mango Prawn Ball 138k

Our second dish. Also beautiful. 6 pieces of mango prawn ball, looked exactly like quail eggs. Tasted so good with the delicious combination of mango and prawn. We’re actually fighting for the prawn ball. LOL. It’s really THAT good.

IMG_5427 IMG_5428

Iberico Pork Ribs with Butter and Pepper 188k

When it came to our table, I was tempted by the aroma. It was beautiful and delicious at the same time. The pork ribs were tender and juicy. Buttery and Peppery. It’s very rich, succulent cut with flavorful ribbons of fat and meat. Super recommended!

Iberico pork is a Spanish culinary treasure, amongst the finest pork in the world.  While iberico is best known for the famous slow-aged hams, the other cuts are succulent, moist & delicious.  This iberico pork is raised free range on traditional Spanish pastures known as dehesas.

IMG_5430 IMG_5431

Water King Prawn with Egg Noodles 168k

When I got home, I just realized that I didn’t take photos of the egg noodles hahaha. Sorry ganks. I was amazed by the water king prawn, actually. It was tantalizing. The prawn was juicy and perfectly cooked. The bold, sweet, firm-textured meat overpowered the egg noodles. *yeaaah rite* Actually the egg noodles’ texture was too al-dente for me. I prefer the silkier egg noodles.

IMG_5432 IMG_5433

Foie Gras Peking Duck with Pearl Rice 168k

Whoaaaa.. you should try this one. Actually, when Aline tried this one, she said that she wanted to keep it in her mouth for a day. She didn’t wanna swallow it. It’s TOO GOOD! And I said, “Gross!!!” But, when I tried it, I wanted to do the same. HAHAHAHA! Well, the foie gras, the peking duck, the pearl rice. OMG. Melt in your mouth. Umami!!!

IMG_5435 IMG_5434 IMG_5436

Tong Po Belly 118k

It’s always good to see a pork belly dish just like my mom’s homemade dish. Ugh I miss my mom so very much. Well, back to the pork belly. It’s a little bit too sweet for me, but I asked for more rice, to lighten the sweet from the pork belly. LOL. What a nice excuse to add more rice hahahahaha.. Well, the meat was tender and juicy, but I prefer the skin of the pork belly softer, since it’s a little bit chewy. Just a little bit. But other than that, it’s super fine.

IMG_5437 IMG_5438 IMG_5439

Chicken Sauteed with Black Bean in Clay Pot 108k

I adored the claypot. It’s beautiful. Well, it’s not special, but I loved the colour of it. In the claypot: a tender chicken meat with a strong flavour of black pepper. It’s addicting, but Azka *Cindy’s son* couldn’t stand the spicy taste.

After I tried all of the menu, I had my favourite right away.
The bouillabaisse caught my heart all of a sudden with the flavour and the texture.
The black crab bisque was a little too salty for me. And I prefer more crab meat hahaha.
Well, everybody loved the black forest, but I prefer it to be sweeter LOL.
For the amuse bouche, pre-appetizer and pre-dessert, we all loved them.

Thank you so much Lobo, The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta and Chef Jan Schwittalla for the lovely business lunch. Fyi, the price for 2 courses 288k; price for 3 courses 388k. Don’t think too much, just go there for your business lunch with your colleagues.

Up in Smoke at RDTX Tower Kuningan Jakarta

August 11th, 2017. I heard about Up in Smoke on my birthday. I knew they will open on July 20th. Since I had another events, I didn’t take my time to visit the place. And along with the time, I totally forgot about it.. until Aline told me about their lunch promo. Ok, let’s go there.

IMG_2970

At first, I thought it replaced the previous restaurant that closed around 2 or 3 months ago. Turned out, it’s totally a new location. The place is managing 2 restaurants. Up in Smoke (open at 11:00) and One Eyed’s Jack (open at 17:30). So that day, we only tried Up in Smoke. It was a really nice place to have lunch with friends. Quite huge for a restaurant. We were so lucky that we could see the smoke gears because they have this open kitchen area. They alsoe have 2 semi-private area. Cool. On the right side, they have bar area for those who wanna have some drinks only.

Iced Tea 30k

IMG_2966

Smoked Brisket Sandwich 110k

BBQ Sauce, Cabbage, Aioli

Since it’s specialized in a “smoke” dish, we tried this smoked brisket sandwich. I love the burger bun. Soft and tender. And the brisket was juicy with a great hint of smokey texture. The cabbage was in a perfect portion, not too much. And I couldn’t stop eating the potato crisp. Yum.

IMG_2968 IMG_2967

Smoked Chicken 120k

Baby Romaine, Alabama White Sauce, Herbs, Pickled Onions

Another “smoked” dish. It’s super duper good. I was happy when it came to my table. It’s beautiful in presentation with aromatic fragrant. I was literally drooling before I tried the dish. And when I finally tried the dish, I experienced chickgasm. LOL. Juicy and tender meat, with delightful taste from the sauce. OMG. I demanded another portion hahahaha.. Good thing that Aline never liked drumstick chicken hohoho.. *clap my hands*

IMG_2964 IMG_2963 IMG_2965

Grilled Cheese 85k

Raclette, Dijon, Watercress

IMG_2990

Banana Cream Pie 75k

Salted Caramel, Brown Butter Graham

Super love! Always love banana. Mixed it with salted caramel and brown butter. Super super delicious. The texture of the cream was astounding. Super moist, delicate and fluffy. Sexy combo between the banana and the salted caramel. It’s big portion, but we could finish our bowls without a blink. Recommended dessert to wrap-up our lovely lunch.

Nebula Kuningan at Kantor Taman Mega Kuningan Jakarta

July 15th, 2017. I visited Nebula when they still in Ruci’s Joint, but I’ve never tried Nebula when in Bali. It’s my lucky day when Nebula at Mega Kuningan invited me to their Grand Opening. Yaaaay.

IMG_1445

Minimalist design with quite spacious place, Nebula stole my heart with their hospitality. As a matter of fact, I didn’t know how many owners, but I met 4 of them at the time. Friendly people. I came before the event begun, since I wanted to take photos when nobody’s there. And I was stunned by their acceptance. They greeted me like a loyal customer despite the fact that it’s my first time. The warm ambiance made me felt very welcome. Definitely will be back. Pssst, they used Seniman Coffee.

IMG_1447 IMG_1461 IMG_1450 IMG_1453 IMG_1452 IMG_1456 IMG_0544 IMG_0545 IMG_1449 IMG_1446 IMG_1448 IMG_1459

Honey Bee 35k

ginger, lime, mint, honey, orange

Love the welcome drink that they served for us at that time. Sweet and sour combination, very fresh.

IMG_1455

Coffee Latte 30k

When I heard they used Seniman Coffee beans for their coffee, I ordered right away. It’s really really good, I missed Bali so very much.

IMG_1471

Rosita

Our Bartender’s nod to the current coffee craze hitting Indonesia by storm. This cocktail is inspired by the Manhattan but should have a strong after taste of coffee in the mouth.

IMG_1484

Pandanlada

Coconut and Pinacolada was a drink that is made to represent the beach island life with its combination of Coconut and Pinacolada. Pandanlada adds an Indonesian twist by adding Pandan to the recipe.

IMG_1485

Ramoz

Nebula’s twist on Susu soda that is inspired by classical cocktail from the Caribbean. The classic recipe uses orange water as it is easily found in most Caribbean countries. Nebula change that to Rose Water that is a common ingredient in Indonesia.

IMG_1486

Asem Kacang

Nebula’s twist to the classic whiskey sour. We toned down the sourness of this cocktail using locally sourced vanilla pod that we believe can even rival the famous Madagascar Vanila.

IMG_1487

Tea Punch

Infused Tea is popular item on every restaurant. Try Nebula’s version that will surely kick you in the back of the head.

IMG_1488

Spicy Corn

Inspired by Bali’s famous Jagung Bakar, this cocktail combined the sweet and spicy flavour profile that many enjoy during a day out at the beach.

IMG_1489

I didn't try all of them, just a couple of the cocktails.
I think I only tried Rosita and Pandanlada.
And I prefer the Pandanlada than Rosita.
Next time I will try their Tea Punch.

LUNCH MENU

Nasi Ayam Sambel Ijo

IMG_1480

Nasi Kuning Campur

IMG_1482

Nasi Goreng Sambal Matah

IMG_1483

Nasi Ketoprak

IMG_1481

I love how they presented the food.
The Nasi Ketoprak is very beautiful with kebab looks hahaha and tasted so good.
Love the nasi goreng. Not too spicy. Well-seasoned and flavourful.
I really love the way they served spicy food. Looks spicy but not too spicy.

DINNER MENU

BAO

Chicken Bulgogi

We use Korean technique of grilling, adding whole cloves of garlic, sliced onions, and chopped green peppers to compliment the grilled or fried meat. We serve Chicken Bulgogi with BAO as Nebula’s own adaption of comfort similar to what Koreans regard steamed rice as.

IMG_1464

Soft Shell Crab

For this recipe, we went into Japanese style directions. We started with the idea of a classic wasabi mayo soft-shell crab. Crisp soft-shell crabs are bursting with tangy juices wrapped around with sweetness from BAO provides such an amazing flavour in your mouth. This Japanese-inspired gives the feeling of simple satisfaction without the feeling of getting lost in a puddle of taste.

IMG_1465

SATAY

Fish Satay

Our Balinese Chef, Gede, favourite authentic Balinese dish apart from Suckling Pig (Babi Guling) and Bebek Betutu. The delicate flavour of fish is greatly elevated when you find spears of fresh lemongrass to use as skewers. to bring out the true local taste, we cook them over a fire of coconut husks.

IMG_1466

Beef Satay

This authentic beef satay recipe will blow you away with its abundant flavour and tenderness. The secret to good satay is all in the marinade, and this satay’s marinade is simply authentic since it has been passed down through generation over generation in Vietnam. This aromatic marinade features a special blend of fresh herbs and spices.

IMG_1467

A LITTLE SOMETHING

Chicken Dumpling

Having experiences authentic Yum Cha experience to Street food style, Chef Hans creates an a la carte Chinese-style dumpling with spicy Szechuan dressing.

IMG_1468

Watercress Duck Salad

We have a serious week spot for crispy, delicate asian salads. At every Nebula’s culinary adventure, we always eat our ways through various kinds of greens. To us the magic happens when you combine crispy and fresh vegetables as delicate as possible with soft tender roasted duck, spicy flavours, Japanese fonzu dressing, and a huge load of fresh herbs. This one is our favourite dose of greens.

IMG_1469

Squid Salted Egg

Singapore’s most sought out dish has find its ways to the city. Knowing that Singapore is a land of salted egg dishes, we interpret this dish by pairing it with green onion chili and ginger to create a subtle salted egg taste that leave you wanting for more.

IMG_1470

SHARE PLATES

Short Ribs Keluak Glaze

A dish that is inspired by our Executive Chef Thomas childhood in Surabaya – the strong rich tasting Indonesian beef black soup called Rawon was the inspiration behind this Short Ribs dish. It uses black nuts (keluak) as the main seasoning to give nutty flaour and dark colour to the sauce.

IMG_1477

Lamb Shank Gulai

Last year Chef Hans travelled a lot to Sumatra and he redefines the Indian curry with Aceh style thick curry and Balinese style urap wing bean (kecipir) served with Lamb Shank. The curry will leave out the distinctive smell of Lamb and make your taste-buds totally surprised.

IMG_1478

Chicken Betutu

Our Balinese Chef, Gede, took his foremother’s recipe from a village in Karangasem Bali and made it available for us to taste in this busy city filled with fusion dishes. The chicken is traditionally cooked in a banana leave traditional ways with lawar. It doesn’t get any traditional than this.

IMG_1479

I don't know how they did the magic.
After tasting several types of food, I still couldn't find the ugliness of the food.
Hahahaha.. just kidding.. I'm not a food critic.
But it's totally true! All the food were delicious.
My favourite was.. err.. I mean, my favourites were everything!
Not being a kiss-up, I'm just telling the truth here.
Too bad, I didn't have a chance to try their salted egg squid.
I have no idea why my table was being skipped when they offered the salted egg squid.
And too bad I had to go elsewhere before I could ask for the food.
Anyway, please visit Nebula for food and coffee. You can ask me to join you.
I will be your company, happily.

Congratulations Nebula for the grand opening. Now I know where to go for delicious food and coffee.

[EVENT] Basque X Cuca: Sugar Rush from Bali to Noble House Mega Kuningan Jakarta

April 13th, 2017. I got the VIP invitation from Cuca Bali to a Sugar Rush event at Basque. Virginia sent me the message and asked me to choose from 3 dates. So, I chose April 13th. Yaaaay, finally I could meet up with Virginia and Kevin. Long time no see. Basque X Cuca.

IMG_6183

Remember those happy childhood moment when you had all those sweets and cakes on your hand? In collaboration with Chef Kevin Cherkas from Cuca Bali, we want to re-create those too-happy too-energetic moment to put a cherry on top of your day.

This was our first time to Basque. It’s quite a fascinating place. There’s a bunch of people dancing, and there’s a bunch of people eating. LOL. Such a different atmosphere. 🙂 But what I loved the most was when I met them again after some times. Virginia! Kevin! We miss you!

IMG_6182 IMG_6176 IMG_6177

Apple Crumble

Ginger braised apples, frothed cream, country granola, tarragon; best paired with Apple Ginger Iced Tea

Kevin always amazed me with his creation. It’s a really beautiful presentation. An apple crumble disguised into a beautiful rose. I think it’s the only apple crumble that I could eat, since it looked very much alike a rose. And I love rose. Rose is my weakness. Hahahaha. Smart Kevin! He knew I was into roses hahahahah.. It was delicious but apple is actually my hubby’s thing. So, I let him finish it.

IMG_6155 IMG_6156

Arroz Con Leche

Coconut rice, caramel banana, cinnamon perfume; best paired with Cortado Coffee

Another creative dessert from Kevin. It looked like banana, it tasted like banana, it was actually banana with coconut rice and caramel. It was on top of the banana peel. Genius! Oh well, it looked more like banana peel, but it’s actually the banana. Hahaha. Love the texture of it. Tender and sweet. One of our favourite.

IMG_6159 IMG_6160

Brownie

Warm chocolate mousse, palm sugar ice cream, cocoa cumbs; best paired with Cortado Coffee

THE BEST! Kevin said that he wanted to make it a real brownie, with the same packaging when you buy a brownies for souvenir. That’s why they presented the brownie in the carton box. And it was dabomb! Tasted delicious with fluffy and delicate texture, but of course with richer flavour. OMG! OMG! I love you Kevin! *Sorry Virginia hahaha* The fluffy texture of chocolate mousse mixed beautifully with the cocoa crumbs. DABEST!

IMG_6162 IMG_6167 IMG_6168

Tea-Ramisu

Black tea cake, grass jelly, aired mascarpone, caramelized seeds; best paired with Creme Caramel Tea

Actually, Virginia and Kevin asked me, “Have you ever tried our tiramisu?” And I answered, “Not yet. When I was in Cuca, I tried the Bali Breakfast.” Then, Kevin went back to the kitchen and made me a Tea-Ramisu. Love the texture. Love the flavour. Love Love Love. This was the second best that night! And it ended our #SugarRush night lusciously.

IMG_6172 IMG_6173 IMG_6174

Thank you Virginia and Kevin. You guys are the best! Really! The best!
