Bakoel Koffie at Cikini Menteng Jakarta

April 20th, 2017. A simple review about Bakoel Koffie. Why simple? Since they didn’t allow me to take photos with my camera, I did some photos with my iphone. Pardon my photos, please.

IMG_7524

I read somewhere that they named it Bakoel Koffie to tribute a lady who sold coffee beans in a bakoel (basket). That’s why their logo is a lady bring a bakoel. When they opened the coffee shop in 1878, they named it: Tek Sun Ho: Eerste Weltevredensche Koffiebranderij (First Coffee Roasting Company). Then they changed it to Bakoel Koffie. It’s a spacious coffee shop, the first floor for smoking area, the second floor for non smoking area. When I came, it’s so crowded, I couldn’t explore the floor. Maybe next time..

Alibi Coffee at Cikini Menteng Jakarta

April 20th, 2017. I got invitation to a restaurant at Menteng area. So I thought, ‘Why don’t I visit a coffee shop near the restaurant?’ And, after some considerations, I visited Alibi. I saw Alibi some times ago when I googled nearby coffee shops. Then, a friend went there. Now, it’s time for me to visit it.

IMG_6610

Located on the roadside of Raden Saleh Raya, it has 2 levels. First level for non smoking area. Second level for smoking area. Love the atmosphere there. Like an old house with dim light and homey ambiance. Please enjoy my simple review.

Umaramu Indonesian Noodle at Menteng Huis Cikini Jakarta

March 12th, 2017. Once upon a time, there’s a young man. He was born in a family with noodle business. He really loves noodle. He wanted to build a place where everybody can find a lot of authentic Indonesian noodles. Well, he did it! Finally. Umaramu.

IMG_4570

“Uma” word comes from traditional custom home from Sumba. Ramu means blending spices. So it means home for blending spices. The owner wanted to show honor to the culinary Indonesia, the wealth of spices are blended in such a way it creates unity flavor, aroma and color. When I stepped inside Umaramu, it’s not a spacious area, but very comfortable. I felt like at home. They have small smoking area on the back side of the place.

It’s really a unique presentation. They stacked the fried dumplings and put the garnish in the middle. Love it. It’s crunchy and crispy and delicious. You can eat it while waiting for the main course. It’s good for a starter and also for side dish.

Mie Manis 30k

Didn’t really like the sweet noodle. Maybe I should try the salty one. Too bad, I forgot to try it at the time. Well the texture of the noodle I think almost the same. We took photos too long, I guess. It’s already cold and dry. Next time, eat it while still warm.

IMG_4601 IMG_4602

Love it! The broth of the noodle was delighful. Really addicting. I couldn’t stop slurrrrping the broth. The meat was also delicious and tender. Sweet and savoury at the same time. Hmmm..

IMG_4599 IMG_4600

Bihun Bakwan Malang 40k

It’s for sharing, so I didn’t put the bakwan into the bihun. Next time I come, I will put it into the bihun and let’s see how it works. LOL. Well, it was delicious, but I prefer to mix it together.

IMG_4593 IMG_4594

Mie Udang Telor Asin 38k

Not really my favourite. The noodle was dry, maybe because we’re taking photos too long. The shrimp was also dry. That’s why sometimes the chef wanted us not to take photos too long. “Eat the noodle now! Eat the meat now! Don’t take photos anymore!” Hahahahaha well, that’s their job, of course. But for us, we cannot stop taking photos until we get the most perfect one. 🙂

IMG_4591 IMG_4592

Mie Titi 42k

It’s a popular noodle from Makasar cuisine. A type of dried noodle served with capcay. Similar to I Fu Mie, only the noodle is thinner.

The recipe was devised by a Chinese descent, Ang Kho Tjao. He opened his noodle shop to sell his dried noodle and it gaining popularity in Makassar since early 1970s. Ang Kho Tjao passed his knowledge of the recipe to his three children namely Hengky, Awa’, and Titi. After Ang Kho Tjao died, dried noodle shop business was continued by his three children who separately opened their own shop. Titi’s are the most popular in Makassar, hence the name of “Mie Titi” become synonymous with Makassar dried noodle.

This was mine. And I loveeeeeee it! Rawon is one of my favourite dishes. It’s hard to find delicious rawon, trust me. Every place claimed that they had the most delicious rawon, but when I tried, it’s not my type. At Umaramu, they made delicious rawon recipe. The beef was also juicy and tender. MY FAVOURITE RAWON!

IMG_4597 IMG_4598

Nasi Telor Tahu 34k

Another favourite of mine. I think I ate this one a lot hahaha. Combination of tahu telor dish with rice. Love the peanut sauce. The telor tahu was big portion. I was overwhelming. Actually I plan to order this by delivery online. I think my hubby will love it.

Gelato Secrets at ShopHaus Menteng Jakarta

January 30th, 2017. After a visit to hotel at Cawang area, we drove to Menteng. There’s a new place that I wanted to go there since it’s opened. Well, finally I had a chance to go there. I was invited to come to one of their tenants. So, I went there with Vivi *remember my niece?* We went to ShopHaus, finally. Gelato Secrets.

IMG_2710

Gelato Secrets was founded by Maria Indah and Gregory Carlo Lentini. They were inspired by their childhood memories and a shared love and passion for gelato. First shop was in Ubud in 2009. They use only 100% natural, fresh ingredients from carefully selected suppliers, free from artificial flavouring, colouring and preservatives, comprising both Italian classics and exotic Indonesian flavours derived from seasonal local fruits and spices. Now they opened in Jakarta, located in ShopHaus. Hooray! The cute outlet, side by side with a coffeeshop, welcomed us in the facade of ShopHaus.

IMG_2709 IMG_2711 IMG_2712 IMG_2708 IMG_2714 IMG_2715 IMG_2716 IMG_2717 IMG_2718 IMG_2719

They gave us options of 24 flavours from the gelato bar. Baileys, Rum Raisins, Coffee & Hazelnut, Salted Butter Caramel, Jasmine Tea, Vanilla Bean from Singaraja Bali, Lemon with Candied Zest, Pistachio, Durian from Medan, Brownies Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate from Tabanan Bali, Ferrero Rocher, Raw Chocolate, Chocolate Chili, Green Tea, Bamboo Charchoal Organic Vanilla Bean from Sulawesi, Cheese Cake with Passion Fruit Sauce, Blueberry Lavender, Coconut & Chocochips, Mango Harum Manis, Lemongrass, Coconut Pandan, Yoghurt with Raspberry Sauce, and Strawberry. Whoaaaa.. so hard to choose, right?

Gelato & Sorbetto 30k S 45k M 60k L

Vivi chose the M size with 3 flavours. Baileys, Lemon with Candied Zest, and Bamboo Charchoal Organic Vanilla Bean from Sulawesi. She loved those flavours. And I think the most favourite of her was the lemon with candied zest. I love it too.

I myself chose the L size with 4 flavours. Salted Butter Caramel, Jasmine Tea, Dark Chocolate from Tabanan Bali, and Mango Harum Manis. I loved the Jasmine Tea. It tasted exactly like Teh Botol. LOL. But my crush was the Salted Butter Caramel. It’s like the teddy bear that you want to cuddle all day long. 🙂 I guess I have to bring my hubby here. He’s a gelato’s lover. Wait for us!

I chose Cheese Cake with Passion Fruit Sauce on top of the waffle. I really like the texture of the waffle. It’s not too soft and not too crispy. Just the perfect texture that I fond of. The cheese cake with passion fruit sauce gelato, was one of the perfect companion of the waffle.

Sea Grain Restaurant & Bar Double Tree by Hilton Jakarta Diponegoro

August 21st, 2016. I heard about Double Tree by Hilton Jakarta Diponegoro from a friend of mine. I happened to crazy about hotels. Yeah, me and hubby, we always love to stay at different hotels. So, when my friend asked me to come with him to try this restaurant at the hotel, I said YES immediately. Sea Grain Restaurant & Bar.

Offering superior dining, business and leisure facilities, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Jakarta-Diponegoro is close to Jakarta’s CBD & Gvt buildings.

I was stunned by the hotel. The lobby is very comfortable. Very high ceiling with glass all over the place and a certain fragrance with soothing aroma. I was mesmerized also by their lagoon pool. Enchanting.

SAM_5655

By the way, when you go out from the elevator to level 3, you will see boxes attached to the wall in front of you. Take the time to look into the small hole in the center of the box. You will find it very unique and extraordinary. Curious? *devilish smile* Come on. Just try it.

IMG_7082

This modern casual restaurant offers exquisite a Mediterranean inspired menu with the option of indoor and outdoor eating and a casual before or after dinner drinks venue with beautiful views of the city skies. Located in the 3rd floor, Sea Grain is open for dinner and the menu offers a selection of signature dishes from the Mediterranean coast with a local twist. The beverage menu offers selection of beers and wide array of local and international wines and spirits. The bar features a selection of classic cocktails as well as Mediterranean inspired cocktails.

Sea Grain is divided into 2 parts. The bar and the restaurant. We headed to the bar first. It’s very cozy with beautiful paintings on the wall by Ines Katamso. There’s a funny moment about it. The PR told me about the famous Ines Katamso, and I said, “Oo ok, too bad, I didn’t know her.” Then my friend said, “Ooooh Ines Katamso.” I was surprised as I never thought she knew about the famous painter. “Err, do you know her?” She said, “No. I just saw the name on the wall.” LOL. We laughed so hard.

After taking photos at the bar, we were headed to the restaurant. They have private rooms too in the restaurant. It’s so hot in the restaurant when we arrived. The sun was shining so hard outside. And we chose to eat in the private room.

SEA GRAIN SIGNATURE COCKTAILS

Sangria 150k by glass / 496k by Carafe

Red wine, Brandy, Orange, Lemon, Apple and Ginger Ale

Imagine. Hot day. Very hot day. There’s nothing more refreshing than sipping a glass of sangria, chit-chatting with your bestfriends, and enjoying the view. Not too much alcohol, it was a really nice treat for us. Since we didn’t really drink alcohol. Well, I used to, but not anymore. 🙂 Sweet and sour taste with warming effect from ginger ale and the alcohol made it perfect for a hot day in a cold room. Recommended!

COMPLIMENTARY

Complimentary Bread

I was told that they change the bread every day. That day they served Jalapeño Cheese Beetroot bread. It’s very special, of course. I guess no one had ever eat Jalapeño bread. 🙂

STARTER AND SALAD

Mezze Platter 88k

Hummus, baba ganoush, mutabal, tabbouleh, ezme, olive and feta cheese, pitta bread and lavash

As you know, Middle East cuisines were never my favourite. So, yeah, I waved in surrender. LOL. But my friends said it was good. Well, I believe them, of course. We had something in common. We appreciated food. Always.

Hummus is a Levantine and Egyptian food dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas or other beans, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic.

Baba ghanoush is a Levantine dish of cooked eggplant mixed with onions, tomatoes, olive oil and various seasonings. The Arabic term means “pampered papa” or “coy daddy”, perhaps with reference to a member of a royal harem.

Tabbouleh is an Arab Middle Eastern vegetarian dish traditionally made of tomatoes, finely chopped parsley, mint, bulgur and onion, and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, and salt.

Lavash, sometimes referred to as Armenian lavash, is a soft, thin unleavened flatbread made in a tandoor and eaten all over the Caucasus, Western Asia and the areas surrounding the Caspian Sea.

Prawn Mango Salad 95k

Pan-seared king prawn, mango, capsicum, balsamic reduction, sun-dried tomato and garlic crumble

Salad. Not my favourite. Hahaha. But, I ate the king prawn. Yeah, prawn is my favourite. But when I saw this salad, I love the presentation. It’s very colourful and tempting. You know what? The sexy prawn is calling me to seduce it. OMG. What a huge effect. Hahaha..

IMG_7087

MAINS

Steam Sea Bass 165k

Sea bass fish, olive oil, mashed cassava and lemon butter sauce

OMG the presentation was perfect. I didn’t have the heart to eat it first hahaha.. The texture of the sea bass was tender and smooth. The cute thing, they use mashed cassava instead of mashed potato. Well, too bad, I prefer mashed potato. LOL. Yeah, I didn’t really like cassava. But, it’s delicious. It’s just not my favourite. 🙂

IMG_7085

PIZZA

Frito Octopus 125k

Octopus, herb basil, coriander leaf, mozzarella cheese, fruit salsa, topped with oncom “orak-arik”

To oncom lovers: you should try this one. It’s a rectangle shape pizza with a special flavour. Well, it’s collaboration between Italian food and Indonesian food. Hahaha. Pizza and Oncom. Well, oncom actually is a traditional staple food of Sundanese cuisine, Indonesia. It’s really a bold action from the Sea Grain’s Chef to combine pizza with oncom. Cool!! Well, the octopus and fruit salsa and the other ingredients were just a compliment. The star is the oncom. LOL.

IMG_7084

RICE AND FRESH PASTA

Rendang Lasagna 130k

Beef rendang, layered lasagna skins, tomato sauce, Bechamel sauce, mini ball cassava with melted cheese

DA BOMB! This is my favourite dish! Lasagna is one of my favourite pasta. So when Sea Grain served this rendang lasagna, I was like, “Hmmm.. what a great combination. I should try this in a hurry.” And, it’s my first pastagasm! Hahaha. Too much, ya? Hyperbola? Hahaha. Nooooo. It’s true! Well, it’s really the best lasagna. I couldn’t stop until it finished. The texture of the lasagna was perfetto. I love the taste of the beef rendang. So rich and sinful. They were all complimenting each other. The beef, the lasagna, the tomato sauce, the Bechamel sauce, and of course, the generous melted cheese. OMG! I’m drooling right now! Definitely will be back for this. Or.. can I order it via Go-Food? LOL! Truly the best rendang lasagna ever! The one and only!

IMG_7086

DESSERT

Baklava 110k

Baked layered of filo pastry and chopped nuts served with vanilla ice cream

Well, I think Baklava is the only thing that I can eat from Middle Eastern cuisines. LOL. But Sea Grain’s Baklava was not sweet enough for me. Maybe next time I should ask for more sugar hahaha. The filo pastry is excellent. Crunchy and chewy. Great choice for dessert.

Baklava is a rich, Turkish sweet pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with syrup or honey.

Filo is a very thin unleavened dough used for making pastries such as baklava and börek in Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines. Filo-based pastries are made by layering many sheets of filo brushed with olive oil; the pastry is then baked.

IMG_7093

Luwak Crepes Tiramisu (contain alcohols) 185k

Tiramisu filled in crepes, luwak coffee flavour and vanilla ice cream

The crepes and tiramisu and coffee flavour and vanilla ice cream. Fascinating combination with a hint of alcohol. Soft texture from the crepes. Rich texture from the filling. Love it! Such a perfect ending.
