Fat Shogun at Menara BTPN Mega Kuningan Jakarta

February 9th, 2017. Finally I tried this new place nearby. I didn’t know about this place until I saw at my friends’ social media when they went there. It’s funny because I lived near Mega Kuningan, but nobody told me about it. LOL. One day, they invited me to blogger gathering, but too bad, I had another invitation. Then, I had this urge to visit them. I asked what time they open in the morning. Then, they asked me to come on Thursday. So, I was there on Thursday at 2pm. Ready to rumble. Fat Shogun.

While I waited for the person that invite me, the director approached me, and we had a great chit chat about the concept of the restaurant. Fat Shogun specializes in Japanese Peruvian cuisine, and they called it as Nikkei. Nikkei cuisine is the cooking of the Japanese diaspora. Nikkei cooking is found wherever in the world Japanese immigrants and their descendants are. But, for historical reasons, two countries have had substantially more Japanese immigrants than the rest of the world – Brazil and Peru. Actually, I never tried Peruvian cuisine. So when I found out that Fat Shogun is a marriage betweetn Japanese cuisine and Peruvian cuisine, I was very excited. Of course I was more excited when I finally heard about Nikkei. Such a great knowledge. Located in the heart of Mega Kuningan, Fat Shogun captivated me with their industrial modern look and panoramic view from every corner. They have open kitchen, table bar, and beautiful mural at the bar. They also have outdoor area which is very comfortable and cozy. Well, let me show you around, then.

MAIN

Nagoya Bowl 125k

marinated unagi & rice with bonito soup aside

The dish came in a  hot stone bowl. I didn’t try the soup because I thought it will ruin the real taste of the unagi. Hohoho. Oh, I really loved the unagi. It was well-seasoned with bold and rich taste. Crisp on the outside but succulent and tender on the inside.

LET’S ROLL

Green Caterpillar 105k

fried soft shell crab, cucumber, unagi, topped with slice avocado and orange tobiko

When they ordered it for me, I didn’t realize there’s avocado on top of it. I thought it was cucumber. When I swallowed it, I was shocked when I saw the avocado, but it’s already in my mouth. What should I do??? I forced myself to enjoy the roll, and surprisingly I enjoyed it very much. The avocado was delicious with no weird taste *the reason I hate avocado is because of the weird taste* The fried soft shell crab and unagi  were like a couple slow-dancing romantically in my mouth. Sensual.

SWEET FINALE (desserts)

Milk Chocolate Pannacotta 55k

Velvety silky with sweet taste of milk chocolate mixed with vanilla ice cream. One of the best pannacotta! It’s very easy to finish it by myself. What a perfect dessert to end my perfect lunch.
