[BALI] Balique Restaurant Jimbaran Bali

December 10th, 2016. After a delicious Spanish lunch, we headed to another lovely place. It was a European and Indonesian restaurant. Balique.

Balique is an original eatery found in the relaxed fishing village of Jimbaran, in stunning southern Bali, now home to outstanding world-class resorts and villas. This traditional seaside village and Balique suit each other harmoniously, as Balique pays homage to all the best of the Indonesian archipelago under its whirring fan-open style roof, in both the style and cuisine stakes.

If you appreciate an authentic step into the past in stunning surroundings teemed with objets d’art, as well as a delicious menu, fabulous cocktails as well as an extensive affordable wine list – you have arrived home. And for sure, the warm décor along with the charming team of staff will make sure you completely feel at home here – welcome to the amazing world that is Balique and allow yourself to forget the fast, modern world outside, and be at peace in a bygone era of pure sensuality.

When I stepped inside, I was speechless. It was indeed a beautiful place. Filled with hand-picked curios, including Art Deco working wall clocks, watering cans, teapots, and the display of classic old suitcases. And the Christmas Tree, so lovely. Actually when we arrived, it was raining. I didn’t have a chance to take their facade picture. Good thing, the rain stopped after a while and they opened the curtain. Yaaaay, we had natural light! Woohoo!!

Nasi Campur – Indonesian Assorted Dishes 110k

Aromatic Rice / Beef Rendang / Corn Fritters / Curried Calamari / Chicken Batutu / Bean Cake / Long Beans

It was delicious. Love the aromatic rice. The beef rendang was very tender and juicy. Not too spicy, so I could eat it with joy. Remember my phobia about spicy, right? Hahahaha. The chicken batutu was also delish. Batutu is a Balinese dish in rich betutu spice mix. Sometimes they use chicken, sometimes duck. Well, back to the nasi campur. It was one of the best nasi campur for me. I never could eat nasi campur Bali because of the spiciness. Recommended!

Nasi campur refers to a dish of a scoop of nasi putih (white rice) accompanied by small portions of a number of other dishes, which includes meats, vegetables, peanuts, eggs and fried-shrimp krupuk. Depending where it originates, a nasi campur vendor might served several side dishes, including vegetables, fish and meats.

The term betutu is Balinese word for certain spice mixture ( bumbu) which consist of shallots, garlic, tumeric, ginger, wild ginger, galangal, candlenuts, chili peppers, shrimp paste and peanuts; all finely ground using mortar and pestle. The betutu spice paste is the sauteed with coconut oil to release its aroma, and applied upon poultry, chicken or duck.

Chicken Satay

This chicken satay served with aromatic rice and urap and shrimp kerupuk and sambal. I always love satay seasoning. It’s delightful and increased my appetite. My hubby is a satay’s lover. And now, I am also a satay’s lover. LOL.
