November 29th, 2013. Soya asked me to be his plus one on an event. It was an experience to taste a little piece of Greece at Bengawan, Keraton at the Plaza. Guest Chef Themis Agnatos, specially flown in from Athens by Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. Using fresh, top quality Greek products, Chef Themis prepared a variety of flavourful Greek appetizers, specialty items and exquisite desserts incorporated in the daily buffet menu and in special a la carte menu for your ultimate enjoyment.
Bengawan is a really nice place to eat with romantic ambiance and lovely view. Love the place. Should be come again someday.
For the drink, I ordered their Signature Ice Tea 🙂
Now, let’s find out what kind of menus we had..
Dakos bread, tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil, olives capers, caperberries, oregano. It was nice to have something unusual. Too bad the bread was a little bit hard to bite hihihi. But, everything else were fine 🙂
Tomato, onion, cucumber, green capsicum, feta cheese, olives, capers, caperberries, olive oil, oregano. The feta cheese was incredible. Well, i love cheese 😀
Greek Spreads Selection with warm pita bread
Fava beans puree, smoked eggplant, salad vinegar, garlic, onion, pepper.
Tzatziki: yogurt, vinegar, garlic, olive oil
Tyrokofteri: feta cheese, yogurt, red bell pepper, vinegar, olive oil
Taramosalata: fish roe, onion, lemon, olive oil
The pita bread was ok. I love the spreads too. My most favorite was the one with peanut, but I forgot the name 😛
Feta Cheese in Fyllo Pastry
Feta cheese, fyllo pastry greek, Honey, sesame, figs jam. I love this one. It’s sweet and tasty. Can you imagine cheese mixed with honey and sesame? Definitely the best appetizer 😀
Shrimps, tomato sauce, Ouzo (Greek Spirit), onion, garlic, feta cheese, olive oil, parsley, basil. This is very delicious. The shrimps were sauted perfectly. The Ouzo was the best. 40% alcohol. no wonder huh? hahaha
Potatoes, eggplant, minced beef, béchamel sauce, cheese. It was like mini lasagna hehehe.. One of my favorites 🙂 The dish was layered and typically enjoyed hot. Mousaka is usually served warm, not piping hot; if cut hot out of the oven, moussaka squares tend to slide apart and consequently the dish needs some resting time to firm up before serving.
French fries, chicken paprika powder, garlic, oregano, olive oil, tzatziki. It was yummy. The appearance was quite unique. The chicken was soft and tender.
Greek Desert: Galaktoboureko, Ravani & Wallnut Cake
Galaktoboureko: Fyllo pastry, semoling, eggs, milk, sugar, lemon.
Ravani: Semolina, eggs, flour, sugar, mastic.
Wallnut Cake: Wallnuts, eggs, bread crumb, flour, sugar, clove cinnamon.
The Syrup: staranice, cinnamon, vanilla, orange, sugar
I like them all 🙂 They were yummy and delicious.
